it looks like they're using some sort of ackerman steering (like a car), except on both sides. then they have a friction plate/brake for the HDPE. lastly, two randomly position pistons (from what i can tell).

any other ideas?

oh oh i get it!
on the axle on the left hand side it looks like there is a pivot in the middle of the axle. is that for articulation of the drive train? (we have one of those too - it lets us keep all four wheels on the ground when entering or exiting the ramp on an angle.)
