Our robot will eat you and so will our fearless leader! He eats students and our robot eats bins!
this is our robot with its arm in the 'down' position....
Once again some parts have been censored for your enjoyment and the explicit nature of their content!
24-02-2003 20:26
sevisehdaIt looks nice. I wouldn't say it really stands out at this point because it seems similar to the majority of arm bots this year. Maybe the sensored areas hide something that will help you stand out.

Maybe it's a traction device of some sort. It could be something to climb the grid and push KOTH bots off the top.
24-02-2003 22:25
Onizukawho knows...i guess you will just have to wait until competition to find out what we really are censoring.

mwhahahahaha!!!
now i know why the technokats have so much fun with this guessing stuff....
a few of you were close but as far as flippers ( i get the image of a pin ball table flipper when i read this and though that would be neato thats not it)
i wish it was traction devices...we had one designed but scraped it cuz we needed the pneumatics elsewhere...
we cant throw yet...we just stack now...we stack fast and furious (thus the growling) but hopefully we'll throw by nationals!
here is another hint of what it does:

I have to agree with gadget. I think the lean and the censored object are part of some sort of oreintation device

could be
but then again could be alot of stuff behind there...maybe its just our team number and we are playing with all of you!
25-02-2003 18:31
Josh Hambright
nope.
I dont even think our decals have been designed yet.
though i did buy us from funny stickers from hot topic that will probably end up on the robot.

woo someone got it!
but they aren't just optical sensors
hehehehe
so if someone can guesse the other part i'll post a video!
25-02-2003 20:07
Josh Hambright
woah that would be sweet...
2 webcams mounted on the robot...
you could composit the video into 3d by putting polarized lenses on them....and wait....thats a great idea but its farther off then the correct guesse!

well since you guys are getting warmer in some ways but farther then others here is another tidbit that I just pulled up from our inventor archives from week 2 into the build season.
Of course to keep up the mystery parts have been removed
Those are banner sensors btw...
but thats not all they are!

dude...i'm so confused! what could it possibly be?
let's see:
box re-orientator?
webcam?
optical sensors?
rotary encoders?
tractor beams?
anti-gravitational stacking device?
lego men bolted to the robot?
the uss enterprise?
tennis balls?
microwave ovens?
tape measure tongues?
hdpe gripper things?
i don't know, davy.

fox46Are they sensors?
The eyes in the drawing seem to fit in with the sensor idea
26-02-2003 12:12
fox46Sensors mounted to servos? Judging by what looks like a servo control horn mounted to the bottom of the plate... Do they rotate back and forth to detect the human-placed stacks, and then the robot can "steal" the stacks???

wooo we have a winner!
We thought we were being all cool and original when we came up with this...
though i recently found a post from another team last year that mentions something similar last year...
Trig is used...and other cool stuff...we can seek and destroy boxs...really fun to watch...i'll post some vids soon.

sevisehda gets a gold start for spelling sensored wrong...we assume this means u thought there were sensors behind here...
but fox 46 gets a scratch and sniff sticker for being the first to get it.
and kyle gets a silver star for effort!
woooohooo

Gadget470and oneangrydwarf gets a shiny blue star for spelling both censored and star wrong.

if you read earlier in the thread...sensored was spelled wrong...
and seeing as we were censoring sensors we thought this was funny...thus i spelled it wrong again.

wait so have i
AHHHH ROBOTS!

sevisehdaI'm afraid that my "sensored" pun was just a Freudian typo. So anywho, how well do they work?
14-03-2003 01:15
Josh Hambright
well the sensors assemblies themselves work flawlessly at detecting boxes. At our community night (sunday before ship date) we had some code in the bot to make it drive towards a box, but our programmer commented it out and has been working diligently to get all of our other navigational sensors working before we do box finding, we know it works but we haven't implemented it into the supar master amazing navigational system our programmer came up with (uses 2 rotary encoders, timing, gyro chip, and alot of math and luck!).
If we get everything working like we plan on having it working for the championship event then we will post a whitepaper post season explaining how we did everything.
