Tricked out Segways.

Mascots riding the tricked out segways around in the pit.

I found it funny they couldn't ride with both feet on the bottom platform.

hey you know....where was this at?
plus...i am a mascot and i feel that mascots need to be given more respect. i mean sure it is sometimes funny but those things are hot and the big feet are horrible to get around in. i think all mascots int he future should get segways to make thier lives much easier.....well maybe not...still any mascots want to rally with me on the fact that being a mascot isn't easy and can very often be dangerous to ones health????

To answer your question, the picture was from Nationals. I remember seeing those two mascots cruising around the playing fields.

To further examplain this picture to anyone who wasn't there these were the mascots for the houston teams so evidently part of the deal to use the facilities was customized segways, these things were pretty tricked out and looked super sweet...

And that team 5 being in the background.... I heard they sucked...alot... but i could be wrong

Oh man when I saw them take that team picture with that banner that they made I about fell over laughing. Its great to see a team with such a great sense of humor.

You are correct! We handed out little fliers that said "Team 5 sucks. Come see why" and that was a huge hit. We got some publicity and time to show off our robot w/ our vacuum! (using a pneumatic cylinder!!) Some people came over scared, thought we where serious, but nope! We had good times laughing at that...

Here is the picture that DJ is talking about:

Haha, when we saw the "Our Robot Sucks" flyers in our pit, one of the engineers on my team looked at me and said, "Wow. Who would say something like that?" It took a second for it to click. I've got to admit, though, great way to get your eam noticed!

Yah i was hanging out in 447's pit, and Kurtis (WITH A K!) and i saw one of the flyers and were like 'hmm we gotta go check this out'! must say i was impressed with the AD campaign!

Then i got to meet Matt, and i was all WOOT! and whatnot.

Then you guys explained it to me and i laughed and my team and they laughed and then we laughed some more!

How well did the suckage actualy work in competition?

Well, at the regional competitions (GLR and Pitts) it did perfect. When we clamped down, no body could move us - even with our wings spread out. It was an awesome sight to see...

But at Nationals, we did perfect at first (the first 2 matches i think) but than the top of the ramp started to get badly scratch (we had 1/8" thick foam which was very soft) and lots of dirt, so we could clamp and take 1 hit, after that we needed a second to re-draw the vacuum! Either than that, it was an awesome invention! (It earned us Xerox Creativity Award at Pittsburgh!)

hmmm. so your ramp defense actually worked. too bad we weren't against you. we weren't able to completely shove a vacuum bot like yours off the ramp do we just drove on top of it for our points. the look on that teams face was kinda funny it was like...."they moved our robot...they went on top of our robot...they got points?!"
