A very interesting and unique design, I love the fact that you posted differant pictures showing all the tasks your bot can do.

My only question: Can you hang from the ground? Or do you have to climb the stairs? If you have to climb, do you climb 6''?

Well done and good luck.

As always Team #47 not only puts out an awesome Forum / Team 47 WEbsite but an awesome robot. Good Luck guys at the regionals

How does the ball tube (i'm calling it a ball tube) take in balls. Is there a device directing / feeding the balls into the tube or do you just drive around scooping them up?

Definitely not what I was expecting from the Chief....

...but I love it!!!

So, whose decision was it to have a small ball hopper that can only hold 4? Is this a magic number, or something based on dimension restrictions?

So, I hear those DeWalt drill motor transmissions give y'all a 3 speed shift on the fly transmission. That's such a simple way to create a shifting transmission, Im suprised noone else thought of it. Good luck and see you guys in San Jose.

Are we allowed to use Dewalt Drill motors? I always thought that we were restricted to using the two Bosch motors they gave us in the kit.... What are the rules

The DeWalt *Drill motors* arent allowed, but 47 is only using the transmissions, not the actual motor, making them legal to use.

You're not allowed to use the DeWalt motors, but you are allowed to use the "off the shelf" DeWalt transmissions in conjunction with kit provided motors (which is what #47 did).

<edit>
Darn. You're too fast for me, Cory.

I would not say that we posted pictures of ALL that we can do ;-)

As to hanging from the ground, no problem.

As to climbing 6 inch stairs, no problem.

Of course it is a magic number! It is precisely the number need to win the Grand Championship ;-)

Seriously though, everything on a FIRST robot is a compromise of some kind -- even if you decide to do EVERYTHING, you will have to compromise somewhere to make it happen, even if you just give up a reinforcement on another part of your robot.

4 was more than Zero which we thought was too low (Others, Wildstang perhaps chief among them, appear to have other opinions) and 20+ which we thought was too high (again, others have made other choices).

4 ended up to be "enough" given the wide range of things we felt were important.
