Sounds interesting, too bad I don't have a car anymore...

Oooo... I like this idea. CT is really pretty during the fall, the foliage will be worth it (although you should probably be keeping your eyes on the road
)

Is this going to be Time Speed Distance Rally? Or a 5 card stud rally? Or another creative type?
17-09-2004 15:55
JohnBoucherIt's a scavenger hunt for information. You need to look out for certain landmarks and answer questions about them. The car with the most correct answers wins.
Another twist is each team is running their own game. The route will be the same for all three teams, but each team will be starting at their own home base and awarding their own prizes.
It should be cool to see how this overlapping works out.

ya i must say the trip is awsome because i was one of the people that drove the route to plan it....its a fun time especially with elgin and his GPS saying we were going off into a nearby lake and such.....lol technology and nature don't mix too well
i hope alot of other robot teams in the area come and help us out!! woohoo

The round trip between all three schools should take about 2 hours.
This could be a first in FIRST! (pun intentional
) Three separate teams getting together to do fundraisers. As John mentioned each team is running thier own game and keeps the profits for the vehicles that start at thier location. This is also a great way to bring attention to the participating teams.
Now hopefully it won't rain this Sunday when I'm entering my car in one of the largest shows in the Northeast, Southbury Training School. If it rains it means I won't be passing out fliers advertising this scavenger hunt.

Our teams may have already discussed this, but what are some of the ways we are planning on marketing the event? Perhaps we could share our ideas on this matter. One thought I had was to put up signs at major road intersections, such route 4/route 7 and route 41/route 112. What do you think? |
Putting signs up at intersections works, especially the main roads you mentioned. We're also putting up fliers in local stores with thier permission, passing fliers out at car shows, listing the event in the back of the Special Interest Bargain News-Calander of Events, and contacting radio stations.

The only major difference between this and a "normal" collaborative fundraiser is that where you start on the road rally is who you pay your participation fee to.
(To be determined - No more than 20 bucks a carload but probably less.)
That way we 3 teams are not fighting over who's money is who's at the end of the rally.
That could get ugly (I'm sure it wouldn't..) and this way we also have 3 places to choose from to start your adventure.
More details to follow. I want to get a copy of the flyer and upload ALL the info at once. But what was discussed so far in this thread is the basics.

If that was the case then this thread would become the scavenger hunt instead of the actuall trip!

Awesome, you picked a weekend with nothing on it!
< slightly OT >I was talking about Woodbury's giant orange puppy sculpture in my Writing Fiction class today. We had to comment on a short story about this girl who went nuts and made a shrine for a man she was obsessed with by hanging stuff in this one tree....but hey, if you stuck that tree in Woodbury someone would probably call it art < /OT >

T-Minus less than 8.5 hours till the road rally.
We'll see how this goes, our first attempt at this kind of collaborative fundraiser.
Wish us luck, or come on down and participate if you live nearby.

KathieKOur thanks to the three teams who hosted this Fall Road Rally - we couldn't believe how absolutely beautiful the foliage was today... It's rare that we actually get out to that part of Connecticut.
If ever visiting our state, be sure to take the tour that we went on today - We will definitely be back for a tour of Kent Falls State Park, the Cornwall bridge and all the lovely antiques shops and arts and crafts locations along the way.
A special thank you to Team 237 - the 2005 Atlas was a nice gift to receive from you all - it would have come in handy at the beginning of the day when we followed the directions and turned RIGHT onto Route 6 instead of turning LEFT as we were supposed to...
But this way we got to see Terryville, named after Eli Terry, famous Clock maker... another FIRST for us! (BTW Team 38 - no one in Terryville seems to know where Nonnewaug High School is located!
)
We'll be back next year to participate in the 2005 Fall Road Rally! And we'll have to CHALLENGE some other FIRSTers to join us!

This is actually the view into the center of Watertown from WHS.

I'll be adding more pics to our Gallery once I get them (Hopefully Tuesday night. 10-19)
