ok lets see, I can see wood in the pic so either your robot is made of wood or that is a table. the sheet metal looks like it is a mounting bracket for something possibility a motor or just a side plate.

BoyWithCape195I think they are deciding whether to make their base?!? out of wood or aluminum

the black material looks like carbon fiber....

the black stuff looks like it could be used as something to contact the carpet with for an out rigger since it is not metal and it looks like it could grip very well.

I think there robot has a wooden base with metal arm and a carbon fiber gripper or other device or maybe even carbon fiber side plates. Also the carbon and the wood are lighter then the metal so I would think that if they were going to use one of then for a base it would be carbon fiber to save weight maybe.

SpikeyHonestly people these teasers are kinda of a waste of time. If you are going to do a teaser actually post something that is worth looking at. Show us a full drive train, an arm, tires, electrical, something! Staring at a random piece of metal with some strange holes cut into it is pretty boring.
If you are going to post a teaser make it worthwhile. Make it something that we can have an intelligent chat about.

i ss that you will make your wheel material out of that black stuff since i see lines possibly for how wide your wheels are.

UnderMyUmberllaATMAN posted this in another thread, maybe some clues?
"Tell me more about this material. One of the kids on our team has a dad that manages a composites manufacterur. So we have been looking at some different things including carbon fiber and some other composites. Please weight is always a problem for us and we cannot afford to use alluminum this year. This is why i created this thread was to see some different composites and alloys."
"Thats awesome. Very clever yea we just posted our first teaser (cough cough) we have a good idea for our arm including a few different materials one of them being aluminum."
I say they are using carbon fiber (the black stuff) for a gripper or arm, and aluminum for the base.
Aren't composites generally lightweight?
