What exactly does the button do? On/Off?

And yes, I realize I'm posting to my own team member.

Sweet design Chris, is it permanent?

Currently, it does nothing. I made the box but programmers decide function.

I believe that this button will stun and amaze all teams that are up against us. You will be blown away by its secret function, which will not be mentioned in this thread. I am curious to know what everyone else thinks it will do.

I always wanted to simplify our controls a bit. You know remove the joysticks, the random buttons and just put one big green button with a smilie face in the middle and label it "WIN". Now if only those programers would get back to work. Their code is so long and messy its making our robot go over weight.

Considering I am the programmer of the team, I think that Mr. McLeod and I agree that it should do as 'Koko Ed' said:

I think there is a rule against blowing up your robot.

that is exactly what it does. It dominates the field.

Our control panel has a large, friendly red button labelled "KILL" on it. It is more popular than any other feature of our robot or controls (other than our use of a radical composite material). I'll let you guess what it does.

when they push that button, a huge directional emp stuns the other robots, allowing them to dominate the field with their tetra stacking abilities....
just a guess

It is quite simple. It dominates. One of our electrical engineers found it at work. You can order one from www.idec.com. It is a 22mm LW series switch.

It would be cool, but i think there is a rule against that. The dominate switch still dominates though.

Domination in FIRST is not necessarily a bad thing.

In order to dominate a FIRST competition, you must:
1) Have amazing drivers. This takes skill and dedication on their part.
2) Create a design that no one expects. Time to brew coffee for your Inventor group.
3) Know the rules to point of reciting them from memory. (And remember--they ask the students the questions.)
4) Possess great mentors (and usually sponsors, to a certain extent) to steer the students in the right way.
5) Publicize the robot within the competition to make sure potential alliance partners know of the existence of the robot. (I think 1293's robot in 2004 might have made a decent alliance partner, had folks known of the robot's ability to push (window motors don't backdrive, you know), and our driver's graciously professional enforcer skills.)
6) A support structure for all of the above. Students for some reason function better when fed and kept reasonably happy.

Therefore, I'd be willing to say that domination is a good goal in FIRST, as long as you keep the GP flowing.

Perhaps when one pushes it, it orders pizza for all the teams on the field, thus distracting them for a period of time while they win the match...

Nice button, but it is no match for MOEhawk's "Monkey with hammer deploy" switch. That monkey was pretty mad after a few weeks in the crate.

lol, gotta love those office depot commercials.

Only thing that it needs now is a big red self destruct button, and a system where you have to turn 2 keys silultainiously to use either of the buttons.
