Wow.... That wheel looks as if it's been hit with a hammer... what's it made of? (the wheel, that is)

aluminum tubing, sry i don't have the extact measurement for the wheel size and its thickness..... but it looks like quarter inch or thicker the wheel tubing to me. We sand blasted after it was welded.

sanddragOur wheels took a quite beating today too. We bent them so they do not run quite true any more. I'm quite surprised actually considering the material is 1/4" thick and it is all machined out of a solid piece of 6061-T6

ChriszumaSo how in the heck does that happen on the field? Did you tip over and get rammed from the bottom or something?

Well, Yes. That was our original plan but we ended up defending instead. Our arm driver was scared or didn't have enough experience to operate the arm so he thought if we played defence for every game we could have had higher chance of getting picked by the top 8 players beacuse we are the only defence robot! I personally did not like it beacuse of the fact that we put in so much effort on building it and it ends up to be useless and not getting picked.

Our team had some wheel trouble of its own. One day at Philly we shattered two wheelchair wheels. Literally, shattered. I have pics, but no linkable ones at the moment.

At the 2004 Quincy scrimmage, one of the hubs of our wheelchair wheel snapped completely out:

I really liked your robot design I didnt see when your wheel got dented that must have been some impact.
Im sure you guys could have capped and played D at the same time. You should build more confidence into your drivers. Its a shame you were not picked for the elimination rounds. You guys were awesome to watch

Yikes! I'm sorry about your wheel, I hope ya fixed it okay. Seems it wouldn't be too hard to fix. Bang the dent out, and you're set, right? (Take major note I'm not technical xD)
Never thought a wheel could get dented...but hey, like I said before in another post: Anything is capable of happening in FIRST. =P

We took a beating on our final qualifying match. A hard thump managed to break the welding between the steel bracket that held the axle and the steel frame... luckily , was last match and we got it fixed in machine shop. but i missed the first days awards due to it
05-04-2005 20:40
MasonMMhope you do something to prevent it from happening again, metal bends easier the second time around. Maybe putting something on the inside of the wheel for support. Any plans to build new wheels at your next event? I know i'd be freaking out if those were my wheels.

tiffany34990ooo ...hope u guys got that all fixed up....reminds me off our back of our bot after a match w/ swampthing....the bar looks like a boomer rang and we had a piece of tubing looking like a v

R81HondaOUCH! I was pretty suprised by the amount of damage our robot took at the competion. None of it was serious but some of dents and dings just made ya scratch your head and wonder how the got there.
