If you want things look really real when they are shiny like that goal, I suggest using a raytrace. It will make the render longer, but the color of the tetras will be reflected on the goal, which looks like it is suppost to be shiny in your picuture. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly how to do it, though.

If you look really closely, you can see the reflection on the goal. Not a good shot for this though. I used this scene as just a testbed for learning raytrace, and actually for using reactor.
