It looks like some type of spiral lifting device where the middle part spins and goes up the outer track, but I'm not quite sure.

How much aluminum did you use to make those solid tracks!? Those are thin hoops that look completely machined out! Thats just a an enormous chunk of aluminum, it looks like its a 1/4"-1/2" thick and the width of the robot in diameter so about 2.5 feet wide. Anyhow it looks like another extremely impressive machine.
