It has been a long six weeks, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! We still have a lot of work to do, but we are almost done. Hopefully if everything goes as planned we will be able to hold 25+ balls, score in the center goal with a shooter mounted on a 180° turret with tilt control, be able to pick up balls quickly off the floor, have the ability to load from our human player, have limited (about 8 balls at a time) side goal scoring capability, and have the ability to get onto and off of the ramp if needed.
We are also using the three-speed Dewalt XRP transmissions for our drive train, which give us speeds of 3ft, 8ft, and 12ft per second in first, second, and third gear respectively. If we have the weight, we will also install a pneumatic braking system, so we won't be pushed around when we want to shoot.
We still have a lot of work to do (the ball shooter is not mounted, but rather just sitting there while we weighed in). We still need to make the polycords for the center elevator, and make shielding for the robot controller. We still have to finish building and machining the parts for the turret (pan) and tilt mechanisms for the shooter. We still need to make our bumpers, as well as some more protection for the back of the robot. And last, but not least, we need to mount the CMUcam on the turret.
It may be a surprise, but right now everything you see right now on the plywood only weighs in at 88 pounds.
