Go to Post I was not looking at this as a backdoor to asking Brandon to do it (when I have impossible/unreasonable tasks I want done, I ask him straight out ;-) - Joe Johnson [more]

Is the Atlas ball used this year the same as the 2x ball from the 2004 FRC game?

Yeah it doubles all ball points on the side it is on at the buzzer.

I think he was referring to the actual ball, not the effects of it.

To that end, both balls were specified to be 30" diameter (FIRST Frenzy source) (Hangin'-A-Round source). However, the 2004 field manual specifies that the 2X balls were 34" balls inflated to 30", something not specified for the ball in Hangin'-A-Round. The KOP balls had ridges to them, while the field versions didn't. The latter, if memory serves me right, was sourced from Sport Fun. (I remember it was printed on the underline of the 2X--anyone got one to confirm this?)

That said, the Atlas ball from VexLabs appears to have ridges, but it's a different color (and the KOP 2X ball never photographed with that kind of glare as far as I can remember). Is it actually different? I can't say--but it might be a starting point if you can't wait until October.

I talked to Karthik, and he said they "should" be identical (2004 FRC doubler and 2006 FVC Atlas).

That's what my sources said it will probably be too.

Yes it was Sport-Fun, good memory... I have one of each of the 04 game balls... gotta love later off season events. Anyways, thank you all for the quick responses.
