Vex Winch

Here's a ratcheting winch we made from standard vex parts and just one motor. It was able to lift the jar shown (which weighs 16 pounds) about 2 feet in 15 seconds without any backdriving. We plan to use this on our vex bot.

The picture is blurred to hide how we did it

Looks very interesting and I would love to know how you did it. We are currently trying to build a similar system and would like to hear your design and experiences.

Chief Delphi is here for us all to share information and FIRST related experiences, it is all about the GP (Gracious Professionalism). In the spirit of all that Chief Delphi and FIRST is about, why not share your design and let us share knowledge and experiences with you? Look at the picture posted right before you (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/25886?), that is what Chief Delphi and FIRST is all about. They built a totally unique Mecanum drive system and are sharing with the whole FIRST community here on Chief Delphi.

Awww... why not...

I just posted top and bottom views, Here's an attempted description.

It's a 1:5 reduction. The ratchet is made from the curved gusset which pushes a rubber link w/ standoff one way, but jams the other way. The motor usually doesn't backdrive, but when it does the ratchet is plenty strong.

I have to say, it seems like a decidedly 'un-GP' move to go ahead and insinuate a lack of GP on their part because they don't wish to disclose everything about their system at the drop of a hat for everyone else. There's nothing wrong with competitive advantage through superior design, which is easily negated if they publicly share that design. It should be their option to share, not their requirement, and they shouldn't be criticized should they choose not to.

I think Jonathan worded his views in a professional manner and was in no way flaming the fact that the ratchet was originally blurred. His message was fundamentally true about FIRST and how we are all striving to achieve the same goals and improve upon each other's ideas. This is how technology advances.

By the way, I'm impressed with the ratchet, I'd love to see video if you can get some online.
