What's the weight on that assembly as shown? And how much force can the brake withstand until it goes down?

Alright, Firebirds, you've really got me interested this time. (Mostly because we're facing a similar issue come Palmetto, but also because y'all are just plain good folks.)

Now, I can figure out that the cam rotates onto the lever, engaging the brake and giving it a good degree of torque, given the length of the lever--but how does it hold its position? Friction? The keyway? That fairy dust that Tytus Gerrish keeps referring to in his designs?
