Was this the original Spider Rack?
Was the Spider Rack for Rack-N-Roll based on this “Spider” crane used by NOAA/Navy/MURC/ECU/HOBI/TMM in the Monitor’s savage mission?
Sure looks like it!
This specially designed lifting mechanism was used to retrieve the USS Monitor’s rotating gun turret. This picture was taken at the Mariners’ Museum at Newport News, Virginia. A great museum and the newly opened USS Monitor Center was fantastic.
