1902 is good people.
I've had the privilege of sharing in some of their competitive adventures and endeavors for a year now and it's always the same: they are gracious, playful, easy to work with, and they never sleep. Ever.
- and the team shaved George's head...he should share that.

I've been a fan of Exploding Bacon for a long time. It's not because they have a cool name, either.
Their mentors are special people. I don't know all of the mentors on 1902, but it has been neat to see George, Dan, Mike and Andrew grow from being FIRST students on ComBBAT, Heat Wave and SPAM to being mentors on 1083 and 1902. The kids on the TechnoKats have looked up to these guys for a few years, and now the rest of FIRST is taking notice.
OINK OINK BOOM,
Andy Baker

JustinJust want to agree with Mr. Baker you guys have a great looking team out there I had the privilege of watching Bacon on Galileo and Einstein and they were a joy to watch and a solid, enthusiastic, fun team throughout the entire competition. One of the teams that makes FIRST so much fun to watch we'll expect great things from Bacon in the years ahead ;-)
Congratulations guys,
Justin

Thank you everyone for the kind words!
I have to echo what Andy said about how special the mentors really are. As a first year mentor they taught me so many things that at times I felt like I was still a student. One of the best parts about having mentors come from all different teams is that they use them to gain new friendships. Coming over from 108, they took the opportunity to get to know the team better, even getting the chance to have a barbeque together in Las Vegas.

David BrinzaThere was a terrific article in the Orlando Sentinel by Jake Vest last year (June 7, 2006):
"Our geeks beat most of world's geeks in competition"
I've got the story posted on my office door at JPL - it does get some attention.
If you search Orlando Sentinel Archives for "geek responsibly", you'll get 2 hits. It'll cost you $3.95 to get the article (I'm not about to violate their copyright). I assure you, the story is very well-written and worth putting on your door. Jake Vest "gets FIRST" and 1902 deserves yet another round of applause for making that happen.
Congratulations on an outstanding year, Exploding Bacon! You're a first-class FIRST team.

Mom, I am hungry... is the food ready yet?
I can go on and on about the whole team. I love team 1902. They are not just a team, they are a family. Also, they don't hesitate to adopt others as their team members. Whenever I hang out with them, I feel like I am with my own team.
The kids on the team are like brothers and sisters. They are smart, dedicated and most of all what matters is that they care about the team. Katie is still my favorite, sorry Caroline. Hopefully I won't forget about your suger cookies next time. =)
Dan, George, Andrew, Mike, Matt... I have known those guys for a good time and they are some cool people and I am privilages to be able to associate with them. They always gave the mayhem committee a hand and made sure that the competition went smooth, infact, Dan, Andrew and Mike are part of the committee and George is the greatest announcer I could find in Florida.
And there are ofcourse the "adults" of the team like Wendy, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Austin, Ryan, Mrs. Coleman and all the other parents. Just a little story... Friday night dinner was served at Wendy's house. Mrs. Coleman cooked and brought it over for the whole team (OMG Mrs. Coleman, I love your cooking) and they invited us over for dinner. Not to mention Wendy was asking me every half an hour if I needed a drink or more food. Saturday night few of my friends and I went to Outback with them for Dinner. We had a great time. I stayed up all Saturday night hanging out with friends and so forth (Dan let me crash at his house). At 8 in the morning I get a call from Wendy asking me to wake Imad up to take him to the airport. I get another call from Wendy at 8:40 and I still remember, she said, "Arefin, are you up yet? Breakfast is ready. Are you hungry?" The more I think about the team, the more respect I gain for them. I wish I had the chance to be on the team.
I would like to write more about the team, but there aren't enough words to express how I feel about them. Team 1902, thank you for everything... you guys make me feel like I am home whenever I am up in Orlando.
