Endeavour's Back!

Space Shuttle Endeavour rolled out tonight from the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) to launchpad 39A at 8:15 pm. It should make it to the pad at sunrise. Mary (spammybadame) and I went out to watch it; what an incredible site! This is Endeavour's first mission in over 4 years.

How did you get that close? I thought NASA woudn't let anyone near the shuttle because of the terror threat?

Awesome Picture!!! And with a FIRST shirt on, too.

I agree with Eldarion, how did you get that close to the shuttle?

That has got to be one of my most favorite shuttle pics ever.

Both Barry and Mary are employed by NASA (although I'm not sure of exactly what they do). I think that's why they were allowed to get so close. Am I right Barry?

For those of you who have attended the Chesapeake Regional, our head pit diva, Dr. Anne Spence (also the FLL partner and 2007 Volunteer of the year) has just been invited to watch the launch (marking the flight of a Mission Specialist and Educator Astronaut, Barbara Morgan) from the VIP section. She is very excited!
But it looks like Barry was closer!

Barry and Mary are both couselors for the space camp at the Kennedy Space Center (Dan's right). They both have a KSC badge that allows them to get that close to the shuttle.

Anyway, Dan and Arefin are correct that we work at Camp Kennedy Space Center (not space camp, that is a different company in Huntsville) for Delaware North Inc. I have a NASA One badge, and Mary has a Temporary badge for the summer that allows us in KSC. This is one of the perks of the job, I enjoy rollout almost as much as launch, depending on where one views it. I was given the opportunity once to see sts-121 launch from 3.5 miles away.

Marry and I are the robotics track instructors. We teach Robolab with the RCX and challenge the students with our own FLL style competition every Friday. This week we had students from many states as well as 6 from Argentina and 6 from England. A couple weeks ago we also taught a group from an economically challenged area in Savannah Georgia that was able to come to camp by the generosity of others. I can't believe I get paid for this job.
