How did their intake work? To me it looks like a vertical set of treads with zip ties to lift the rings. How do they lift the rings onto the set of treads?

or.. am I totally off?

That would be a very off, but I am not saying how we did it, but their are now much new photos in other places.

They were probably practicing. You can't use frequencies when practicing or at all during a comp. Only when you are on the official field.
