We decide the final design tomorrow; but this is a teaser for one of the candidates.

Ooh! Ambiguous grey shapes from a CAD drawing! And you're using a kit motor! I know EXACTLY what you're making!
With all seriousness, shouldn't the globe be driving something?

I have literally like 50 renders of awkward CAD angles I could post.... All from when I was learning CAD and rendering.

Bill GoldWow, did three people really have to post negative comments on this? If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. No one requires you to reply to every little thing. I wish 973 the best of luck, and to the others that posted I'd suggest they either get back to work or possibly ask questions instead of posting negative comments. All I have to say is that I'm very thankful that none of the offending posters were ever students I mentored. I expect much more from FIRST participants, but maybe I'm too idealistic.

I think part of the responses is based on fact that one of the biggest pet peeves on CD is teasers that are abstract or just show parts that are hardly unique and offer nothing much more than confusion. It has been brought up before. And if you post things for responses you have to expect not everyone is going to like what you put up.
I do think people need to think about what they put up on the page. |

I like how these similarly abstract teasers were never flamed at all.

If they weren't obscure angles or unoriginal parts, it wouldn't really be a "teaser" then. It'd be a normal photo. I mean, I could post a pic of 675's chassis, but then that's like saying "this is what we have" and not "this is a hint, have fun".

The first one got some pretty sarcastic responses. The last three got no responses at all. So worse getting flamed or ignored?

But the point of putting up these teasers is to gain attention.
So when no one pays attention to it and has nothing to say about it then what was the point of putting it up? |

I think it'd be best to discourage others from posting inane comments about pictures that they feel are superfluous or inane, themselves. There's nothing to be gained by it, and in this case it's not like there haven't been equally vague teasers posted in the past that didn't get the same negative reaction.
Like I said before, if you don't have anything positive to say or a question to ask then (in my not so humble opinion) you shouldn't go out of your way to start a thread about the picture just to berate the original poster for their lack of "etiquette." PMs worded in a very respectful manner, or asking for more hints would be much more professional. Isn't that what we're supposed to try to promote? This isn't World of Warcraft where it's a relatively generally accepted practice to flame people from anonymous characters; this is FIRST and the real world here and we should be more courteous and respectful of others. I don't know. Maybe it's easier to be on this high horse when I don't have a robot to build, but you should see this view! |
