Wow, I like how you guys fold it up. I've never seen a folding OI like that. Looks sturdy too. BTW....is that pink duct tape?

When I first saw the color pink in the thumbnail I thought "yay, Pink robot revealed!" ... I was slightly disappointed.

Cool OI, though! It looks like a very clean and easy to use set up.

Looks kinda heavy. I wouldn't want to lug that thing around Atlanta...

But it is cool! And that makes up for about everything

It is lightweight, but yes, lugging it around Atlanta will not be the most pleasant part of the experience (getting to use it in competition is).
Yes, we are pleased with it - I was hoping we would keep it as a surprise for UCF, but oh well. . .

PS: yes it is very pink duct tape - you can see it used in the background of one of the prototype teasers

PPS: also notice the low-tech use for the Exide batteries. . .

PPPS (I swear, this is the last one) in the top left, you can see that this is the final seconds of driver practice before putting the robot in the crate on the truck

That is got to be the best looking control panel I have ever seen.

It looks like six weeks is too much time for you guys

See you guys at the UCF regional.

very cool... looking at it again though, i just hope those handles dont get in the way. I know they're on the sides and everything... I just hope you have enough room. But knowing how things work in the Lab, i'm sure everything's fine and perfectly lined up.

and for the record, for 233, 6 weeks is never long enough. I'm sure you all understand that

Very cool! Your pink-ness makes me happy, yet again.

Also, interesting tidbit.
This one kid on campus has a unicycle with a pink tire, much like the color 233 uses. Every time I see it, I think about you guys! =]

One has to wonder if that extremely vibrant pink would get a little distracting to the driver/operator while trying to watch a field filled with colors a bit less bright.

You are looking at the front of the OI - ie the operator uses his right hand for the joystick.
It was made by waterjet and CNC work - as well as magic (that's my guess, I'm just a driver)

The pink OI would be distracting only if we didn't have a pink robot to catch our eyes.

Well I have been wondering if they would let me use the manipulator with my back turned to the OI...in which case i would be using my left hand

I like the slots that constrain the joystick motion to only the Y-axis. That is something that never had occurred to me. Clever idea.

The same effect could be gotten (on the white 2005+ joysticks, I haven't modded a CH flightstick enough to know if it'll work for them too) by just adding a dab of adhesive to one sets of spring holders inside the joystick. If a team didn't have the time to make a slotted panel, it should work about as well (depends on the strength of the adhesive). You could just use hot-melt glue if you wanted to try it out without fully committing to locking an axis. The only downside is that a dab of hot-glue is nowhere as near as cool as a pink powdercoated panel.

Our joysticks are custom - all we need is 1-axis movement, so why deal with one that it overkill? Each is just a box piece of lexan connected to a potentiometer (with rubberbands to keep them centered - another advantage - no setting trims!) We tried it out last year with base operation and they worked beautifully, so we're using v 2.0 this year.

Very beautiful Control Panel. I was expecting more...pink!

Side Note:

Wow would it be amazing to work outside...

I know us northern states have snow days. But do you ever have school called off because it is just too nice outside to keep people cramped up in a building?

yeeeeeaaaaahhh, working outside. . . not so great. . . (at least it's not Florida summer)
The best part is the tour buses that run right by where we practice - we give them a pretty good show, I guess.

Yes, we have days like that - they are called senior skip days (but don't tell nobody)

We don't have senior skip days. They are now called "mommy please call and excuse me" days

But back on topic very sweet control board. I wish we would have done something more spectacular.
