MOE Green Man Group in Atlanta

MOE 365 students created a "Green Man Group" percussion team for the Championship Event. They performed before the pits opened on Thursday and over lunch on Friday and Saturday. Thanks to members of other teams (most notably 768, 1676, and 288) for joining in on the fun by dancing and taking a turn on the drumsticks!

The FLL group looked great! The MOE "Green Man Group" was more about the performance (for now). We have a number of percussionists on our team and they put together their "sets" for the Championship. We even incorporated "MOE Cowbell" into the mix of tubs, tubes, and sticks.

None of the children in the FLL GREEN MAN GROUP on our team were percussionists, but Josh (who is a pianist) picked it up very quick, and Paul and Steven did well enough for the backup instruments. Josh actually shortened two songs, A Time To Start and Rods and Cones such that together they fit into a roughly 5 minute time period. He was also responsible for organizing the music and teaching everyone their parts. In the end, they were able to play the songs at full speed, which, for Rods & Cones is a feat, especially for the high range!

We built 3 instruments; a tubulum, a mid range (2 octave) chromatic PVC, and a high range PVC (made specifically for Rods & Cones). We also had a synthesizer (for guitar and drums), shaker, and two microphones. We ran everything through a 12 channel mixer and output to a pair of Mackie powered speakers.

For the real GREEN MAN GROUP effect, they all had identical black shirts and pants, green gloves, bald caps and were made up with green makeup. This means that they had to wake up almost two hours earlier than normal to get all the makeup done!!!

Because we had all this equipment, we had to rent a trailer to lug it along with us.

It was a tough job, but they'll never forget it!

They won 1st Place Robot Performance with 3 Perfect 400 point runs.

Congratulations! Great robot performance and a great imagery hook as well. I saw a few photos, but did not get to hear you guys play. Any video?
