FRC Teams 48, 1001, 1270, 1532, 1787, and 2399 participated in the NASA Glenn Research Center Open House in Cleveland this past weekend. The FIRST demonstration area was inside the Center's main hangar, one of the centerpieces of the Open House experience for visitors. This was a pretty demanding demo pace. Sessions were held every 15-20 minutes from 11-7 both days, but it was well worth it to introduce FIRST robotics to so many newcomers. Dozens of busloads of visitors - including more kids than I care to count - were bussed into the Lewis Field campus. The smiles and "oooooh"'s were in abundance!
Jonndarr Bradshaw - "The Voice" of the Buckeye Regional and other notable FIRST events - was on hand to emcee the proceedings.
Several Cleveland TV stations covered the event. The teams had a great time working together to spread the fun and excitement of FIRST.
I heard one kid behind me say of our bot - "that is the coolest robot I've ever seen". Um, yeah, just wait until he sees the *really* great robots of FIRST.....har.
On Saturday, five of the teams, led by intrepid members of 1270, 1532, and 1787, had some fun with an impromptu Rube Goldberg demonstration for the crowd:

I actually think this is a pretty dang neat thing for teams to work on together, and I could envision offseason events encouraging even more teams to invent massive Rube Goldberg combinations of their robots, the playing field, and the game pieces on a full size field as a mini-competition or exhibition. I challenge others to raise the bar! LOL.

NASA's 2nd ????? jet aircraft (guess the airplane - I know what it iiiiii-isssss) in the background was a curious observer of our little show. A fun, unique venue for a fun event!

kramarczykHey, looks like somebody stopped in to manipulators'R'us and got themselves a new hurdling device. The lower jaw is quite intriguing; got a pic of it in an inspection compliant position?
Looks like a great event to spread FIRST; great job!

That would be correct!
Here's some info on what NASA does with the planes:

The blue and white S-3 was sitting right next to the one shown in the picture.
