Take that game hint!

I think anyone who has talked to me since the close of the 08' season will know exactly what this means.

Isn't Copley Square beautiful in the summer?

Would someone care to elaborate? What is so special about the turtle?

I get the copley square thing but c'mon, theres no need to physically assault turtles.

I assure you, I am a fan of turtles...I even have my own. Something about this turtle, and its connection to Overdrive kinda brings out the worst in me though.....

More specifically, the turtle is in Boston's Copley Square. The three numbers the GDC sent as a game hint, when treated as GPS coordinates, point roughly to the turtle.

I sort of feel bad for the group of people behind Andy in this photo, they're going to get a picture with a random failing arm behind them

Even more specifically...

A vague reference to the Hare and Tortoise statue at Copley Square. (See hint and discussion here, and where I bring up the map here.)

Y'know, Andy, it's a good thing the Hint wasn't the Make Way For Ducklings statues down the street at the Public Garden -- you'd have a whole bunch of puzzled pre-schoolers wondering what that man is doing. As it is, you'll have some out-of-towners looking at their pictures and, well, wondering what that man is doing. Maybe it's a local Boston thing.

From this perspective, Andy is the hare and he is losing by more than a hair as they near the finish line. If he isn't careful, he may cross/break the plane with that foot.

Can he afford to lose more hair?

That's right -- I forgot about that. And a gentle tapping only to pass. Might lose some points there....

Or maybe they're bringing back the pressure plates, in which case students will need healthy feet to run quickly to a loading zone then back to the pressure plate...

Anybody notice how this image and thread is about scorning obscure game hints? Now look what it has become! Just further proof that Mr. Lavery can strike anywhere, and at anytime.

On another note, I think that a Mario bros. game would be pretty cool. Gotta start coming up with ideas for shell-collecting devices. Also, does this mean we'll have to make robots that jump?

In my opinion, one of the best quotes in CD history is
Quote:
"Imagine the pressure on Dave Lavery - every time he sneezes someone assumes it's a game hint." - Gary Dillard
The reason is because it's so true.

But seriously, what's more fun than analyzing a game hint?

I've got nothing against game hints. Personally, I think the way their devilish difficulties and absolute ambiguity causes some of the brightest minds around to come together and think outside the box is awesome. It's also fun to look back at such hints, and see just how close, or far away, we all really were. Plus, who doesn't enjoy stimulating their brain with a little creativity and (extremely) lateral thinking?

P.S.- Also, what else would we do between the end of championship and the beginning of January? (I mean, besides going to off-season competitions, fundraising, recruiting new members, doing fun build projects, and getting caught up with your (non-robotics) life.)

Ooh... How about an animal player next year instead of a human player? We'll have to train a dolphin, and have it, instead of the robot, run autonomous...

EDIT: I wonder what training a clownfish is like(or if it even can theoretically be done)... hmmm...

And you've all got it wrong; we won't be using trained dolphins, or trained clownfish...we'll be using trained Narwhals

(Yeah, I really don't know where the narwhals thing came from. I guess I've gone a little crazy after sitting in front of 3 computer screens for 3 hours trying to make next year's website work )

That's okay. I personally think narwhals are freakin' awesome . But it might be hard to avoid damage of field elements, with those horns. I don't think that the field crews will want to have to replace all the game pieces between every match... unless Dave somehow factored this into his ingenious plan...

If there was a water game...

968: The RAWC would sink
45: TechnoKats, cats hate water
191: X-cats, cats hate water
108: SigmaC@t, same as above
1094: Channel Cats, same
177: Bobcat Robotics, gee, I didn't realize this many teams had cat in their name
222: Tigertrons, tigers are cats
330: Beachbots, Obviously they'd win
359: The Hawaiin Kids, they live on the ocean
294: BCR, Possible alliance with 330
111: Wildstang, can horses swim?
1157: The Boulder Bots, they'd sink faster than 968!
1902: Exploding Bacon, combustion can't happen under water. or can it?
1114: I don't know what Simbots do in water but they would definitely win at least 2 regionals
217: ThunderChickens, water does conduct electricity
174: Arctic Warriors, Ice game maybe?
1717: D'Penguineers, They'd like ice
1305, Ice Cubed, again more ice
374: The IceBreakers, looks like they'd ruin the ice party
121: Rhode Warriors, well...they're from the ocean state
702: Bagel Bytes, does anyone like soggy bagels?
118: Robonauts, Space ships used to land in the ocean
2194: Fondy Fire, fire doesn't work in water
744: Shark Attack, the name says it all

We can have them puncture balloons, or something. The field crews get to blow them up, then watch the bots/narwhals destroy their hard work (ooo...new field crew member initiation? [:< Mwahaha...)

BCR is Beach Cities Robotics. You figure out how they'd do! As a side note, they're within a couple miles max of 330...and both teams are at most 15 minutes from the beach.
Horses can swim, though they aren't exactly good at it mostly.
For 1902, all you need is an explosion. Ever hear of a naval mine?
For the ice teams, I guess IceBreakers would ruin that for them...

You're also missing any "Pirate" team, as well as 1876, BeachBotics. (I just remember running across the name somewhere...)
