1098 Steering 2009

Articulated Steering: two trans axles pivot independently in order to translate motion as opposed to stopping and turning (and trying to swing the trailer around). single cim motor and timing belt reduction, silent while running full throttle.

Looks cool! be sure to keep your CG LOW with this beast, it looks tippy! With the inside wheels so close together, it may want to fall over to that side...

Thanks for your thoughts. I am a mentor on 1098. This bot has a very low CG. The team is planning on adding weight low on the chassis as well. They are expecting to be about 20 to 30 pounds under weight. The chassis does seems very stable right now.

we considered a design nearly exactly like this. seems like a pretty simple way to get 4 wheel steering. We ended up weighing the options and went with a 4 wheel ackermann style steering system. very similar steering benefits but a bit more stable since the wheels don't get too close together.
