Here's our teaser. We don't know what simulation mode is, but our robot is right there behind us.

What happened?!?!? That's the wrong shade of blue.

Seeing your robot with those wheels is, somehow, wrong.

Is it just me, or does it look like 254 made a dumper bot? And a wide bot, never thought I would see the day the Poofs made one of those... This is going to be an interesting year...
10-02-2009 21:26
waialua359who cares about the teaser? LOOK AT THAT FIELD!!
10-02-2009 21:49
swamp_childI guess it's time we put up team 179 teaser #4...
10-02-2009 22:00
Akash RastogiOh my, Oh my my my.
Well, the Poof frame looks nice, and does appear to be a dumper...but not certain.

It looks like you guys are gonna be able to hold a TON of balls....nice
10-02-2009 22:38
Hippo7990nice
i like the field
is there any reason behind the hanging of the robot lol??

I'm going to say that it might be a shooter. You can't see anything behind the shirt (or the student), but somehow, I think that's intentional.

I finally figured out what "simulation mode" means - it means your bot is currently simulating frame members that satisfy R08-M. Nyuk nyuk.
It also seems that Ron Weasley in the ThunderChickens shirt is doing a spot-on impersonation of "the usual" Paul Copioli facial expression.
10-02-2009 23:38
waialua359Hey Cory,
Can you update the pic without the blue shirt?
Thanks,
Glenn
At first glance, I thought I saw a tall shooter robot right above the person with the ThunderChicken's shirt on.

Something just seems wrong in that pic, just wrong. I can't put my finder on it. Nice Job Poofs, see ya at nationals.

I lost count, how many sides does that piece you're holding have?

That would be our 2001 robot. We plan to put more on the walls, as it provides a good display area while staying out of the way.|
a wide bot, never thought I would see the day the Poofs made one of those...

What, you mean the field that isn't covered in Regolith?
Better be some regolith come next Saturday... |

SU 39When I first read the rules I was dissapointed to find out that we would no longer get to see the new things 254 did to their wheels. Looking forward to hearing about your robot from team members who show up at your scrimmage.
"Team 846 needs a pair of 54 wheels, preferrably in the chrome model...again that's 2 54 wheels for 846."
11-02-2009 02:47
KF987I never thought I would see 254 with a "wide" robot
How about taking that t-shirt off the bot?
See you guys in San Jose!

Hmm... I'm going to take a wild stab at guessing what's going on here. I see a touch of a mechanism at the top, and a massive hopper with collector at the bottom; however I don't see any belts in between them. (I guess one could be hidden by the guy at the front, but it'd be a pretty small conveyor) So here is my shot in the dark: the robot human and ground loads (based on the position of the t-shirt it looks like an open top) to fill up a huge hopper for a power dumper. The floor of the hopper is actuated upwards to bring the balls into contact a roller at the top that spits out balls until the hopper is empty. I'll guess capacity at 40-50 balls and dumping speed at 8balls/sec. Am I close?

Grant Cox
Wait what.. you guys have a 217 shirt but I don't have a 254 shirt.. something is wrong here.
11-02-2009 11:35
Judging by the two clamps, I'm willing to bet that the Poof scoring mechanism/internal belts aren't even mounted yet. A lifting hopper seems like too many moving parts, with too much possibility for failure. The poofs don't work that way.
My bet is that we'll see some internal belts and roller going up to a MASSIVE spitting device. I bet we're going to see a more refined version of the 2006 bot, that could unleash DOOM onto an open goal.
11-02-2009 12:49
CaioI agree with craig and luke, it seems like they have a spitter of sorts at the top (covered by the shirts), and I don't think 254 would make a plate with a hole for mounting something, and NOT mount something. I'm guessing a belt in the shape of a 7 or something that takes the balls from the bottom and spits it out.
Looks very nice though. I love the colored trailer
I spy, something two years old, and blue.

Ok, if no one got it yet, I doubt this is 254's robot. This would explain the change in color. What the Poof's have prepared this year is still a mystery...
And a nonagon would be pretty hard to make in compliance with this year's bumper rules, just saying

I'm going to take a random stab, could this be....the Space Cookies(1868)'s robot? I don't know, an earlier post sort of raised that possibility in my mind.

=Martin=Taylor=Some of you are right about the origin of this robot
We had the pleasure of seeing 254's bot in action today.
It is very scary.
We got to go head to head with the Poofs for 1.5 min before we rammed, literally head to head, breaking both of our robots in the impact
Nothing bad. We both got fixed.
254 '09 = Very impressive.

We asked all of the teams who've attended our practice sessions to hold off on posting pictures, videos, and descriptions of our robot. Our team is definitely humbled by the buzz surrounding the unveiling of our robot , but we would like to keep the suspense up a little longer. We are really happy with how our design choices have worked out this season. We are working on optimizing our systems and once everything is at 100% we will post clips of the yet to be named 09 poof bot.
