MOE 365 Presents

Here is MOE 365's Lunacy bot. Using the lunar theme, we named our robot "CozMOE." [our back-up bot is named "Kramer"] We won't have any video posted until after the Washington DC regional next weekend. See you on the playing field!

NOTE: We have contingency plans in case there is too much MOE green on this bot given the camera tracking activity in Lunacy.

Dang that thing is going to be hard to beat at Philly. Any sensory other than the camera? Ball output speed?

Man I can't wait till Philly now. Should be crazy fun.

Great observation!! The MOE build team went "green" this year and recycled some old bicycle wheels.

We thought that CozMOE looked kind of like a MOE green and black penguin.

Other sensors include wheels encoders, follower wheels (traction control), gyro, pots and limits switches (and some others that will make sense after you see one of our auto routines). We had tachs on both rollers but took them off for weight and I/O limitations. We pretty much filled up all the I/O you can get with 1 Analog (1-2 ports left) and 1 Digital (all GPIO & PWMs are used) modules.

I can wait for Philly either. With the move to the Liacouras Center we have more teams (capacity), with a bunch of new and not-so-regular teams to add to the regulars (including some of our friends from FLR). We are also attending the all new DC Regional with its own amazing cast of characters from all over the country.

so here is my question, that looks more like a turreting power dumper (or very short range shooter) then a shooter, is there any truth in that? i was thinking that this might be a very effective strategy but i couldn't figure out a good way to implement it.
or maybe it is a hybrid dumper/shooter...

Your analysis is quite good, it is primarily a turreting power dumper and can shoot a short range. We have the flapper (polycarb pieces) on the front of "the shooter" to adjust the exit angle of the balls. I think our max range for shooting is ~5ft. Ball tend to exit "the shooter" 2 at a time.

With that said, I agree with JVN that labels like "shooter" and "dumper" are misleading and it is all a wide spectrum with mix of range, speed, volume and accuracy. This robot tends toward the short range, high volume, hopefully with high speed and accuracy (cant really be determined till competition for any robot).

I hope it is an effective design, is it anything like any of your thoughts? (I always love to see robots that look like my ideas at kickoff) With any luck, it will be a flexible design that can adapt to the ever changing strategies I expect from Lunacy.

Is the empty cell that's hanging off the side there strategically placed for a mechanism? Or am I just reading too much into a picture that has the cell there for the purposes of making the picture look more interesting? Heh.

There's a window motor and gearbox behind it, the ball is apparently triggering a limit switch... Looks like a dedicated Empty Cell collector to me.

Hopefully, if not I believe we have a black backup as part of our aforementioned contingency plan. One of our mentor has worn that green bow in her hair at competitions the last few years. We sort of based the rest of the tux decorations on that bow.

There are dedicated Empty Cell collectors using window motors (Denso left and right) on both sides of the robot. They use a limit switch for cell detection and 10 turn pot geared with modded gears from the FP gearbox to set to 3 different positions (collect, hold, deposit).

Hey there Brian

I'm interested in more explanation about your empty cell set-up. Ho did you mod the gears? Do you have some kind of hook attached to the gearbox onto which the ball is placed, or what? I'd love to get a better idea of what's going on there!

how could you call it beastly while it has a bow tie!

Its a false sense of security when your up against a robot with a bow tie. then you realize it's team moe...

Steve.

Thanks for asking. Version 1.0 of our empty cell device had a hook on the gearbox. At DC a few weeks ago, we cycled through a number more designs - multiple hooks, a tray, etc. We settled into version 4.0 at the end of DC and that is the version you will see us use at Philly. More detail will have to wait a week.

It seemed as if you were having trouble during the first day with controling and malfuctioning but maybe it may have just been my viewing of the game. On the other note, such a great robot. It's quick and delivers the key to mastering Lunacy.

Your assessment is probably correct. I didnt see any of our practice matches, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had some issues. We nearly doubled the top speed by changing our Toughbox gears and had to recalibrate the camera tracking.

Thanks for the compliment. Every year, we try to improve the design at every event and it is nice when it works out.

Rob:

We are not sure yet what our Spring off-season will bring. It all depends on availability of our team members. MOE has almost always gone to suppport our friends 222 at the PA Robot Challenge. If we do that again, we probably will not be attending Monty Madness (even though I know it is a terrific event).

That is kind of upsetting not being abole to really play against MOE. Hopefully, the robot gods will appear and give you some miracle allowing MOE to attend Monty Madness. It was a pleasure seeing what MOE has to offer and I will be investing more time next year to make sure the Iron Devils represent what you all have shown us during FRC.
