177 CAD Render

This is the final render of team 177's robot, The Bobcat. The students did this on their own, without any help from the engineers.

Great looking bot, its scary how similar it looks to 148's robot this year, basically the exact same concept.

Will this be the 4th year in a row that 177 ends up on Einstein?

I like how everything looks so clean and complete. No random pieces anywhere!

And if so, can they become the first team to win all 4 divisions*?

Nice looking bot, hope we get to play with you at Champs again!

*177 and 25 are currently the only two teams, to my knowledge, that have the opportunity to sport a banner from every division. 25 won Archimedes in 2002, Curie in 2003 and Newton in 2006. 177 won Galileo in 2006, Newton in 2007 and Archimedes in 2008.

I posted this quickly for the CAD team last night at our meeting, and didn't have time to add a few details. This is the simplest robot we have built in my tenure at 177, it has only 7 motors and no pnuematics or vacuum system. It also uses mostly off the shelf/kit parts, and rather than the drive modules from the last few years that we've used we're using our "East Coast drive".

You're one of the few to catch on to this hidden competion going on to see who can be first to collect them all. 25 had a chance either last year or in 2007 to get Galileo and complete the set.

We also have the 2001 Galileo trophy from the inaugural year of divisions.

The similarity to 148 is amazing but I assure you we both worked independently to the same conclusions before we knew what each other was doing, Same thing for Gael Force, 126, who has a slight variation of this concept. At Suffield Shakedown 126 and ourselves were admiring each others machines and the different ways we accomplished the same tasks.

Are you submitting it for the CADD competition?

Alex and Jake submitted it already. That's how I got them to finally give me a render.

Yea I find it amazing when experienced teams like yourselves 148, 126 all come up with basically the same concept. With all the experience your teams have you must start designing in a similar way with similar goals. It happened to my former team in '06, we would look at robots like 1114, 254 and were like hey that's the same concept as our robot! Just accomplished in a different way. Its neat to see.

The change to the driving surface, wheel size limitations, CG balancing, clearances, manueverability...

We had a bunch of reasons based on the game and robot design constraints that pushed us away from any signifigant advantage in building that system this year, so we spent the time on other systems...
