Ding. Ding. Ding. We have winners!
Well, thanks for playing the game; there are the first three correct guesses:
(drum roll please...)
Da Winner: DRAKE343 (aka Josh Drake)
Second Place: 340x4xLife (aka Justin Montois)
Third Place: Josh Goodman (aka Josh Goodman)
Here is the story:
This is the prototype FLL table designed for the NYC FLL Tournaments this coming season.
Every year NYCFIRST have serious problems storing, fixing, and repairing of the 24 FLL tournament tables. Many times other FIRST brothers in New Jersey bring their tables to NYC so we have enought tables at the City-Wide tournament.
Storage was the biggest problem and when they come out of storage in the Fall season, the tables sometimes resemble the shape of potato chips.
We decided to create a more permanent set of tables that will not get damaged, easy for storage and does not take a lot of room.
We work with the Metal fabrication company MILGO/ BUFKIN (http://www.milgo-bufkin.com/) who are supporter of the FIRST mission. They donated the engineering and fabrication of two dozen metal tables for NYCFIRST.
Each table assembles in 5 minutes with a single screwdriver and all we add is a sheet of plywood for the base. We are planning to use Lexan or PVC sheets for the base. When the table is disassembled the four sides stack on top of each other for storage. The storage space for a metal table is 1/10th of a regular wooden table.
We do not have a cost for a table but MILGO/BUFKIN will give me a price tag in the future for possible orders from FLL teams. Several NYC schools are interested in purchasing this table.
This table was not painted black because it was jsut a prototype. We did use it during our FLL Kickoff event.

Rich, any chance of having one of these available for the NJ State Championships in December? Any talks with Ernie DiCicco? Those wooden tables are a big pain for those of us students who have to fix warped wood and paint them again.

You guys were so helpful during the 2009 Javits FLL Tournament. All the FLL tables we used were from Team 11 in New Jersey. I will speak with Randy and Ernie. ![]() |
