Maybe this is an issue of perspective but it very much looks like that rod sticks outside of your frame perimeter.

That's some "conclusion"
The 80/20 sticks are at the perimeter. Maybe something goes accross them to hold back the whip.

What are those black things? They look like cyllinders of some sort...
