This is a close up of Team 230's lights this year. They were so popular last year, lighting up the etire pit at each event, so we brought them back! Not only are they a stylish feature of our robot they serve a purpose. They are the color of the alliance we are on and they flash on and off when our pnumatics system is at less then 60psi (the min pressure for us to charge our kicker). See you in Hartford and Atlanta!

IceStormDo you have 2 strips of lights there or just 1 strip of the color changing ones? Also curious how you hooked them up to allow you to change color as well as flash them with the pneumatics? I'm assuming that there current draw was too great to just put right off one of the break out boards.

Rick VoglThere are two strips of lights, red and blue. Each strip is driven by a spike relay module. We have a Hobbs digital pressure switch set at 60 PSI on the pneumatics. The robot will flash the lights until that pressure is read by turning the relay on and off. The pressure switch was in the 1999 or 2000 kit of parts. Most of our robot is made of recycled parts including the lights that we used last year.

Each on a Spike? You do know you can use one spike to do that - Set it to "OFF" and both are off, set it to "FORWARD" and one is on, set it to "REVERSE" and the other is on, or set it to "ON" and both are on. Connect the + inputs of each light to the M+ or M- on the Spike and run the - to the GND on the Spike (input side) or to any spare black connection on the PD board.
We have six 12" lights on our robot, connected to 3 Spike channels (2 spikes), in Red, Green, and Blue. No RGB color, just Red, Green, or Blue (or more than one). We use Blue to indicate ball in and Green to indicate High Gear (much easier for the coach to yell at the driver for running around in LOW). When the robot hangs from the vertical pole, they flash in sequence as soon as it is above the platform. |
