Go to Post Ultrasonic sensors will allow you to do fundamentally the same thing that the bump sensors do...so you can slow down and smoothly stop your robot just before it reaches the end wall, instead of running into it at full speed and then figuring out "ohh! there is a wall there!" - dlavery [more]

Team 2220 traditional 6 wheel drive

The frame is made of 2x1x1/8 c channel. The gussets are 1/8 inch and we use 1/4 20s. We direct drive the middle wheel with standard Andymark Super shifters. I put in the bellypan as .25 plywood, but it is really just a space saver for now.

Nice! Looks.... traditional. :|

Great simple 6 WD! Looks very robust.

Could you get away with flipping the outside C channel pieces and running the chain inside of them?

I know there are a couple problems with it already. Using the extended output shaft, we still don't have enough room in the wheel well to run 2 loops of chain. Other than machining a longer outputshaft, are ther other easy fixes? Also, I am not completely familiar with how to use some of the stuff from Andymark: do I need to use 2 hubs on the driven wheel, or do I just need a hub on one side? If I only need one hub, I think we can make the chains fit, but it will still be close.

Are the gussets enough to keep it square? Are there any other problems I should be aware of?
We have never used more than one AM hub per AM wheel. We have used plaction, plastic omni-wheels and mecanum wheels with this setup and have never had a problem.

You could use the 6" performance wheels, which already have the keyed bore on them.
