Some photos from our very first season were recently posted on our team's website so I thought I'd share a bit of our team's history with you all.
This is a picture of the team with its 1997 robot the Silver Eagle (the Evil Machine lineage only runs back to 2003).
I don't think anyone could have predicted how much our team would improve over the years or that we would still be around after all this time.
You'll notice our head mentor, Wayne Cokeley, peeking out from the back who has been with us through it all. Shaun McNulty, our current drive coach, is also pictured here as a high school student on the team.
Having these two amazing mentors is invaluable to our team, not just because of their technical prowess and supreme strategic mind, but because of their relentless dedication to keeping Raider Robotix as a world-class program year in and year out.
They also serve as team historians, relaying stories of our humble beginnings. It reminds us of all the hard work and the relentless drive of all our alumni and our mentors that have helped to build our program up from essentially nothing. Without all those hundreds of high school students whose names and faces I never got to know, we would not be the team we are today. Without their endless hours of work, nothing our team has done would have ever been possible. Most of all, it reminds us that everyone starts out small, but with the right combination of persistence, dedication, and, yes, sometimes a bit of luck, we can all build something great. This is one of the lessons I learned as a student on team 25 that I have taken with me beyond FIRST robotics and I think many other FIRST students can also say very much the same of their experiences.
Thank you all for allowing me to share this tidbit of our team's history and a bit of how the legacy of team 25 has impacted me personally with you.
Don't forget to thank not only your mentors, parents, and coaches, but also the alumni who made your team what it is today. Always strive to leave the team better than when you found it and hope that future generations will do the same.

Wayne C.the fate of those original Raider Robotix kids in the picture-
the kid holding the tube is/was navigator on a nuclear submarine
the guy to his right is an engineer via BYU
the guy to the right of him started up his own medical diagnostic devices company via Cornell
the fuzzy guy in the back is me- now gray and older. I teach Biology
the guy blocking me is a businessman and computer programmer
you all know Shaun at the left- he dedicated much of his life to FIRST robotics and competing with robots
the guy in blue in the center went into the business world
the guy down front to the left moved out of state and we dont know his fate
the guy in front with the glasses is now an engineer with the military and served several tours in the Middle East
the redhead in front went through Carnegie Mellon and is now a robotics engineer
the two girls went on their own path right after this photo- no idea
the guy down front and right with the glasses I believe became a social studies teacher
the female mentor moved to Ohio and helped develop all sorts of national science educational programs. BTW- she was the one who convinced me to form this team
the robot they are surrounding was the Silver Eagle- our first robot. It had a plywood base, ran on drill motors and was essentially useless. We built that robot in a classroom. We all signed the bottom of the base. It taught us a lot.
Why Alexa would post this old picture is a mystery to me. But in all the years the team has been around we have dozens pretty much like it.

Racer26So of 12 students in the picture, only 3 have unknown fates, and the remaining 9 all chose paths at least indirectly related to their involvement in the first Raider Robotix team, making a difference in the world.
