A good engineer will never stop learning. From his peers, technicians, and competitors. The field is just to vast for any one person to know it all. - Mr. Mike [more] |

A little hard to see, but two nights ago I got the chance to fly into JFK in a 172 which was pretty neat. But even better, the Enterprise and SCA (the 747 they fly them around on) were still sitting on the ramp. While we were waiting for our clearance to leave, one of the ramp guys asked if we wanted to go look around. Duh! This is me with the tail of the 747 in the background, you'll notice it has "winglets" on the tail, these are for directional stability as the flow can get nasty downstream of the orbiter and make the regular vertical stabilizer less effective.
This is a much better picture, but not a great WAI.
