This isn't very effective. The entire point of a heat sink is to maximize surface area for convective heat transfer. You have a minutely larger surface area with a soda can attached as compared to the case diameter of the motor.

Called the big CIM a "Coke can motor" by mistake the other day. The students looked at me like I had three heads.
I will now do this so they understand my lingo.

Just add a layer of duct tape or gaffers tape to the case of the motor and the can fits quite snug and well around it.
