FRC2495 Modified Kitbot

2495 is a team I had the pleasure of mentoring while on co-op. They learned a ton and gained some great resources and skills. Brandon Liatys can answer questions about aspects of the kitbot/robot design. Not pictured:gearbox hex supports, they were being painted white. Great design and prototypes are being refined right now.

Modifications used are custom gussets, this type of construction will be used on the rest of the bot as well. Feel free to ask for CAD of the gussets if you would like. The orange and white is obviously for speed. Watch out for these guys in MAR!

For those interested, here's a zip of the gussets we used. Includes Solidworks Part file, Solidworks Drawing, PDF Drawing, and STEP file.

This robot is beautiful. Brandon Liatys' shirt-orange looks really good on C-channel. Also, props to Brandon Liatys for running this team. Most don't know it, but he does most all the mentoring himself. I expect to see 2495 hit the ground running at their first event, and suggest everyone else watch out for them as well.

Yup! I was amazed by how well a 19 year old was running a team he is an alumni of. Props to you, Brandon, for doing some amazing things for your team.

Akash, our robot needs to be blue this year. Make it happen please.

Looks good and should be a solid drive for this year. What decision basis determined the replacement of the corner connects with gussets?

With the kitbot setup this year the rails all face to the inside of the robot, so if you wanted a opening in the front of the frame there would be no way to attach it to the inner rails. We ended up using 8" C Channel on the front anyway for bumpers, so it would still be possible with pure kit parts (though awkward). We also wanted to test drive our new machining sponsor. Lost weight is also a plus, about 3 or so of these gussets equal the weight of one corner connector.

Brandon Liatys' shirt-orange is actually a trademarked color and is the official color of 2495

Looks awesome Brandon.

How did you get this painted?

Spray paint or powder coat?

Since the corner connects were not used, what did you do to ensure the bolts were not over-tightened?

Nice. Corner connectors are heavy. We've done plate corners, and used 1/4" rivets for further weight savings.
