Sheetmetal Drivetrain Prototype

First stab at a sheetmetal drivetrain. Will be used as a show piece - hence the lights and black show bumpers (which are too low to be FRC legal).

The sheet metal and the white under glow surely give this drivetrain a nice showcase look, but for Competition Use; I am Not sure if those Bumpers will be legal, due to open corners.

OP already said this isn't for competition. Read the post first.

What are the pop rivets on the top of the bumper going into?

They are grip rivets that go into the 3/4" plywood bumper back.

They are used extensively in the construction of road cases with aluminium corner extrusion.

Any idea how much that weighs without the bumpers and battery?

That is one nice looking drive train. And until I reread the original post, I thought you had done it in the last week!

I love the lighting, what did you guys use?

Is that a custom 3rd-Stage on those Ball Shifters?

Also, I see the tops of the bumpers are held on with clips, are they also supported by the frame elsewhere? And if so, how?

Beautiful. Think you would use this for competition if it's made FIRST legal?

We haven't actually weighed it (scale hasn't come in yet), but it should weigh about 45 lbs.

The lights are four inch LED strips that were gifted to me; they were installed as an afterthought.

Its a custom third stage enabling us to direct drive the center axle.
The bumpers have sheet metal "hooks" on the bottom face that hook into slots on the drivetrain. The system is not perfect yet; however, a lot was learned and will be implemented on the competition robot.

The current plan is to use an optimized version of this drivetrain for the competition robot this year.

Thank you for your kind words!

Any chance you could post more pictures of your chassis?
