VexPro out of stock? No problem.

Since we couldn't get dog gears, we ended up getting regular hex bore gears and added the pocket and couterbore on the other side.

I wonder how much of a difference the teflon coat makes in the pocket.... someone have input on this?

Looks cool, I can't comment on how well they'll work. Why did you make 6 of them though?

Pretty standard for 1251 if you ask me.

I believe we had a gear in the gearbox for our drive last year that VEX didn't offer as a dog gear (they now offer it this year). So we did the same thing you did here. We did not have a single issue with our gearbox last year so I think you'll be fine.

That's really neat. How did you guys hold the gears in place while machining them?

Hard anodize will have zero benefit on those surfaces with the number of cycles you will see in FRC.

Thank you guys. That's what I figured anyway, but wanted reassurance from someone who has done it.

As for how we held them, we made a fixture plate with a protrusion that had a nice fit on the gear counter-bore. We then had a bolt pattern around the outside diameter of the gear and clamped it down with the head of the screws. You can see in the teeth of the gear where we clamped. We did multiple holes so we can put the same pocket on any size gear up to 60 teeth using the same fixture.
