Team 4955's first robot - Ethel

Team 4955 LA Tech's robot for 2014 - Ethel

Robot:
- Heavily inspired by TEAM O-RYAN
- Standard kit of parts drive base with 4 CIMs
- Jaw is lifted and opened with pneumatic cylinders
- Spring-loaded linear puncher is not yet installed
- Intake operated by PG27 gear motor and BaneBots wheels
- Almost completely off-the-shelf parts

Features:
- Reliable and quick pickup, even with off-angle or bouncing balls
- Quick but gentle release for assists
- Effective low-goal scoring from the sides and potentially from the top (adjustments to be made)
- Able to catch or inbound from the human player with the jaw up

Not the most sophisticated robot, but it was still a huge undertaking as the entire team (even the mentors!) had no prior FRC experience. The build season has been a fantastic lesson in robotics knowledge, team work, communication, and time management. Next year we will explore more ambitious builds, especially if we could start making custom parts.

Team 4955 is gracious to the sponsors (Vigilant Global / McGill Unversity / Argosy Foundation / Robotique FIRST Québec / Youth Fusion Jeunesse / Lester B. Pearson School Board & Lakeside Academy) as well as the students, teachers, and parents of the team.

Ethel will be competing Festival de Robotique FRC a Montreal Regional.
