I have done that in the past to help drill through thin stock. It keeps you from collapsing the walls.

. We also decided to do our entire frame from 1/16th box stuffed with wood because it weighs slightly less than 1/8th. It means we run through less stock and less money than mixing the two and we can stuff only the pieces we want. Even better, stress analysis through Inventor shows it to be much stronger than just 1/8th box channel
