This is a render of what we are planning on building for our pit. We usually have a drill press and band saw on a rolling cart. We are also looking at rolling tool boxes instead of the tote salad we usually bring.

icq10Looks very nice, we have something similar, but painted in our school colors. What are the tubes on the top for? Just decoration or for making the Pillars more stable? And are those regular plastic tubes?

eedogaSo I was being lazy...The tubes are 3" PVC piping and it doesn't really look like that. I just didn't feel like drawing all the PVC fittings we used to make the top pipe square.
We hang a light bar from the back pipe, and banners from the side ones. This year we are repainting our PIT entirely white and going with an art museum theme. Last year it was painted in our school colors.
The larger back cabinets will be rebuilt, and we will be reusing the older skinny ones and the shelf across the back.
Really we only needed to design the back cabinets in CADD, because we are going to make them this weekend. The rest was just for giggles.

Looks nice.
How do you plan on transporting it (both to and through the venue)?

eedogaThat is actually part of why we are rebuilding the back cabinets. The ones we used in the past were 2'*2'*8' heavy, and big. We moved the entire pit in the back of one pickup while a second pickup carried the robot, spare parts and some other stuff...
The redesign essentially cuts the two back cabinets in half making 4, 2' *2' *4' cabinets. This will be easier, and they can fit in the back of one of the many mini-vans going to competition.
Last year we were lucky enough to get to go to worlds. For that we used our crate to double as a pit.
That worked well, but the crate was a bit overweight...So if we are ever lucky enough to do that again we would have to redesign and rebuild it.
