Okay,
Let’s talk about what the criteria for determining who the 10 year teams are. Basically as I see it we should go by those teams who have been in the program with the same partnership for 10 years. Looking at the list of teams in 1992…funnything I see WPI w/a different school.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute & Doherty High School
We’d all like to proudly proclaim that we are 10 year teams. But in my mind I just can’t acknowledge 1/2 a team as a 10 year team.
Hate to break it to you Guys,

WPI has been a major sponser for a team for all 10 years of competition, switching high schools occured because the state of massachusetts created a special school for mass students primarily interested in math and science, and created a program for high school juniors and seniors the chance to recieve college credit in freshman level college classes. Alot of the students from the Mass Academy spent their freshman and softmore years at Doherty High School. WPI 10 years int he comp with 10 different robots makes WPI a 10 year anniversary participant.

DJ,
I agree. Although this is a difficult thing to track, I do not think that it is something that needs to be nit-picked.
190 has a good case for being a 10 year team, and they should be treated and respected as such.
There are also other teams in the same boat (19, 250) that have experienced some slight changes to their team structure, but I don’t know the details.
10 year teams need to be celebrated and not overly critiqued.

On top of what Deej said… a point of note…
We have Doherty High School kids on our team… as a matter of fact, one of the drivers and one of the human players are from Doherty (sophomores there). Of the 6 drive/ops/HP… 5 of them are currently students at Doherty or came from there prior to attending Mass Academy.
But for the real reason as to why it lists MassAcademy now and not Doherty even though we have kids from there is because the schools have a collabortive going… just as MassAcademy kids can go to Doherty to be on the sports team, Doherty kids can come to WPI and do FIRST…
Don’t be so quick to judge without knowing all the facts… point being that there would be NO ten year teams if you go so technical as you are, because every year there are changing sponsors on other teams (Hm… for example, Nypro 126… yes Nypro remains a large sponsor… but every year there is a different group of contributors that make that program possible… so technically under your saying they aren’t 10 years either…)
Let’s put it this way… for 10 years WPI has worked to inspire kids into science and technology, and we welcome kids from almost anywhere to participate in the endeavor. So we expanded our horizons to include the students in the High School here on campus… the team has still worked hard in FIRST for 10 years… and continues to grow stronger…
So Team 190 will be celebrating our ten year anniversary as participants in this great thing called FIRST… as you’ll see by our crate… t-shirts… etc…

Doherty is still part of the 190 team. Last year a student from Doherty was one of the drivers.

10 years in the competition or 10 years with the same high school & sponsor?
There are few of the latter, but there are many of the former.

This is debatable, but here’s the list I have:
Team 19
Team 45 - Kokomo HS / Delphi (formerly Delco Electronics)
Team 126 - Clinton HS / Nypro
Team 190 - WPI / Mass Academy
Team 191 - X-Cats
Team 250
I think that teams 19 and 250 have changed their team structure a bit (added a HS or a sponsor), but their team has been in tact all 10 years.
Are there others?

Team 250 has gone through changes almost every year. We’ve been a rookie I think more than half of the years we’ve been a team cause our sponsor keeps changing. One problem is 4 years ago our sponsor was NYNEX then NYNEX got bought by Bell Atlantic, and now Bell Atlantic became Verizon so that keeps changing. However the original high school, Shenendehowa, has been with it all 10 years. The same tech teacher, Paul Kane has been with it all those years. Many praises go to him from all of his students so we are definitely one of the 10 year teams even though our sponsors have changed constantly and with the addition of South Colonie High School last year, Paul Kane has still been with it all 10 years so we definitely deserve recognition.
