This has been my first year in team 1086 and man, I have to say that it has been a great experience! :yikes: Being in build season, we work at Flexicell, which is a workspace that allows our team to construct our robot efficiently.
Have the other teams had nice experiences in their workspaces?
We are blessed with many good work spaces. Aside from the typical team garages, we have 2 large classrooms adjacent to each other that we can work in.
But the real cherry on top is having almost unrestricted access to Hewlett Packardâs Model Shop right here in our town.
We got a new room this year, 2 door garage, storage room, classroom with computers, room for saws and loud tools.
The bad things about our space is the administration drives golfcarts at our school and they park them in our room at nights.
past few years before this we had a portable that was also a math class, this meant no work during school and had to have perfectly clean every day.
We have a small room that the math department used to use for students needing to do make-up work. Mostly, we use that room for storage of the robot, parts, and tools. Simple work is done in the area the teachers use for cubicles, and our sponsors have space they allow us to use as well.
We have a wonderfully table-cluttered biology room, which makes it impossible to get anywhere without taking a detour around the room. We also had to spend the first two weeks making a work table so that we could cut stuff without damaging the tables. Whatever; I love room 17 all the same.
Plus side, when our mentor gets a hold of the keys, we go joyriding
2106 had the pleasure of working with you all last year. Flexicell it a great place to work, and Jumper isnât bad to have around either!
Good luck on your build Pirates!
Thanks for the replies everyone :yikes: How far is everyone in their build proccess?
^^Good to hear from ya!
We have a âshopâ in the school that has 2 bandsaws, 2 benchtop circular saws, a grinder, a (new to '08) manual lathe, belt sander, 2 tables, 2 drill presses, and a bunch of table space. However, itâs pretty friggin cold in there so we typically only go in there to cut. Attached to that is a storage space that is mainly for robotics but also the school sometimes stores things in there.
Then, we have 2 fairly large classrooms that only have 9â ceilings. The good news is that we can put a half-field in them; the bad news is that our lift canât go up all the way. In one classroom we have a bunch of computers that are used for programming, CD, web, finances, and awards. We also assemble electronics in there and have all of our previous bots on display so that any student who walks in sees them.
We also have a CNC mill that we mainly use in manual mode to drill out precision holes for things like motor mounts. We expect this to see more use in the coming years as the mentors learn more and more.
If it snows, we haveâŚwellâŚletâs just say it better not snow and close the school.
what do u mean pirates?!? haâŚBlue cheese baby!!! and having jumper(mentor) around helps alot!
haha I didnât notice the pirates part! Yea its blue cheese!! :yikes:
I need the back story on the whole âblue cheeseâ thing. Does that mean we wonât see Mr. Clarke and his pirate flag cape this year?? sigh that was a sight to see. I Also take it the 'bot is no longer called âThe Black Pearlâ?
No the bot is not called the black pearl. the black pearl and the pirates are dead
the pirate cape is gone but there are ideas swirling around about a new cape to go with the new name.
oh yeah itâs blue because blueâs our main school color and cheese because we like to / need to cheese our bot every year.
ohâŚdont worryâŚclarke will have a capeâŚ
Before Technology highschool became a magnet school (public school for advance students, need to apply and take test) we were a vocational school so the 3rd year of robotics we found the machine lab its really big but withall the mess in there it was horrible so it got claned up now its great has all sorts of machinery and a room to the left hugge with tables and about 20 computers so ye tons of space
