1114's HARPOONS

We were wondering what they were building over in the pits.

Regular speed:

Slowmo:

I don’t know what speed that is at for the slowmo (all the guy coud tell me is that it’s at 240fps) but I’m pretty sure it’s at 1/8x speed or around there.

I don’t know if they’re going to bother adding a mechanism to winch them back. 1114 x 148 might be enough to outstack any other 3 robots on any other field.

Holy safety hazard batman, how did that get through safety inspection?

Edit: it’s a joke people, they are just as safe as other canburglars.

Those are any less safe than poles?

Totes safe…

“4”

im now waiting for when they harpoon another grabber, cant wait to see that call…

While I understand that this video has been circulating around, I don’t think it would be respectful to post it without the explicit permission of 1114.

Poles are somewhat more constrained in their range of motion. Once those harpoons are free of the launchers, they’re only constrained by their strings.

Poles are constrained by their connection; the bolts are constrained by their connection. Both can become projectiles if the connection fails.

If a 1/8s bolt comes loose or a 1/8s pole comes loose, I doubt it’ll really matter which one it is; both would be equally as dangerous. Maybe the pole more so just for the size of it.

Will these interfere with 1114’s landfill mining?

1114 is a class-act, so I don’t doubt that it is safe. I’m actually wondering what safety measures are in place.

Also, I don’t expect them to have to prove they are safe to me or CD, I’m just curious.

They made 4 all at once. They’re right next to each other.

The #1 priority in the FRC robot inspection process is safety.

If 1114 deploys their harpoons in eliminations, it’s because they met the safety criteria of a very experienced and safety-conscious inspection team leader.

I think I question was asked on the q&a before it closed asking about harpoons. Il look for the actual q&a but short story they said it was legal as long as it had a rope or something attached.

Im not sure. I wasnt there, but if they were doing it in the pits I cant imagine they were super worried about privacy. They certainly didnt ask the guy filming to stop, look away or go away.

Reguardless, Im not going to lie that looks TERRIFYING. I hope that if they dont deploy them in auton that they have something very good to prevent them from firing unintentionally. A harpoon to the ref is not a good way to make friends on the fields

Once you step into a public venue it’s fair game.

I want to see how these end up being used come elims. if they reel in the cans thats fine, but if they dont. someone might bring across a souvenir with them when they pull the cans from the other side. Which may result in a red card under the right conditions for the harpoon user. Speculation.

And here it is replacing most of 900s robot. https://fbcdn-photos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xft1/v/t1.0-0/11000591_10153189286788559_3201751804762631753_n.jpg?efg=eyJpIjoidCJ9&oh=37c269808fc0ff29c692cd5d903a61f2&oe=55DE7439&gda=1440859851_9b5404679189c91cb0c53561166305c8

I’m pretty excited to see that thing in action.

Whoa. All their eggs in one basket it appears? I wonder if they’ll wait until semifinals in case it doesn’t work?
