1241 Girls in STEM Olympics 2018

Team 1241: THEORY6 and Scotiabank are partnering up to host the 2nd annual Girls in STEM Olympics. The event will be held in Downtown Toronto at Scotiabank Digital Factory (333 King St E, Toronto, Ontario) on October 27th, from 9:00am to 5:30pm. The event is free of charge.

This conference is open to girls in grades 8-12, even if they haven’t participated in FIRST Robotics!

Any high school students or older can volunteer and we are looking for industry professionals to speak at the event or represent their company/organization.

Participants will get to choose from competing in the “Team Challenge” which includes 4 STEM-based activities in which groups will compete against each other throughout the day.

This year, participants can also compete in the “Skills Challenge” where students can test their individual skills out in CAD, Programming, Engineering Design, Public Speaking, and Media Production, and we will be having industry professionals judging these competitions!

Check out the recap video from last year!

This is great!

One thing – can you make an effort in the future to avoid referring to girls and women as females? Thanks.

Genuine question here, what is the more preferred/considerate way to refer to girls and women as, if one is not to use the term female?

Girls and women.

Edit: I don’t mean for that to sound snarky, but I think it’s really that simple.

I apologize, anyone who identifies as a girl, woman, or female is welcome to attend the event as a conference delegate.

Sweet – no apology needed and I appreciate the clarification. I hope the event is a tremendous success!
