If anyone else from the event has some videos to share please let me know.
I get that everyone is disappointed about the season ending, but having a gathering like this just seems irresponsible at this point. Just tonight the Israeli government announced new restrictions that starting tomorrow no more than 10 people are allowed to be in the same room at any time. And the US has ~20x more cases than we have here. There’s a reason the season was suspended: we’re trying to #FlattenTheCurve. Take some time to relax, stay home as much as possible, and leave the robotics until after this dies down. There will be plenty of time to compete when you aren’t putting people’s lives at risk.
It’s no more irresponsible than having several hundred people go to the venue, setup their pits, and interact with a ton of people just 2 days prior. In our specific city there have only been 2 cases which is no more than it was 2 days ago. Even California with the strictest restrictions limits gatherings to 250 or less and there was less than 100 people here. I, as well as everyone else who attended the event, understand the situation and associated risks. Not to underplay the severity of it but society is not just going to shut down unless the risk is sufficient and at least here for when this occurred it wasn’t.
“US has ~20x more cases than we have here” yea but the US also has more than 20x the landmass and population so per capita it’s less
Doing one of those things and then the other is less responsible than just doing one of them, and just because one group did something wrong doesn’t mean that other groups should follow suit. Yes, it is irresponsible to gather large groups of people right now.
That said, this looks super fun, and your robot is really cool looking. The giant shooter is crazy good, and the intake is just immediate. Well done!
St Louis was shaping up to be a very good event. Teams and volunteers had the rug yanked from under them very abruptly.
It is likely that the people seen in the OP video had already been exposed to each other just before their Regional was suspended.
That all depends where you draw the line. There is a none zero chance people will get into car accidents but does that mean no one should be on the streets driving or that it’s irresponsible? This type of event is no more risk exposure than just attending regular school classes, which are still occurring here. Sure it’s good to minimize risk and gatherings of thousands of people may not be the best ideas but when you take into consideration the exposure of just going to school (or the actual event 2 days prior) this is insignificant in comparison.
As far as the robot goes you can tell in the video the shooter isn’t tuned correctly. We were going to do that on the practice day for real field but we just ran with it here. Auto also needed some more work, that third ball that rolled back short circuited the routine lol but at least the robot got it.
I hope you’re right. Michigan only had two cases a week ago. Now we’re shut down for at least a month.
It is a great looking robot though
Exactly what happened. One of the mentors from 1706 invited a few teams from the St. Louis regional including us. I wanted to go, and I think most of our team did as well, but we were unable to make it because of concerns.
I’m glad 1706 did this event. After cancelling the St. Louis regional 10 minutes into day 1 everyone was thirsty for some competition. Hopefully next time our team and all the other St. Louis Regional teams get a change to compete with you guys. Everyone there looked like they had a pretty awesome robot.
Also, your guy’s ball path is crazy. It goes up and down then up and down. I haven’t seem any robot like that yet and it seems to work pretty well for you guys.
