1678 Rules Test 2020

Team 1678 is excited to share their 2020 INFINITE RECHARGE rules test! This year, we are holding a pre-release sign up. Once you have provided your information via this Google form, you will be added to a group who will receive an email with a link to the rules test once it is published on January 4, 2020 at approximately 10:30 AM PST.

This test is created by a select team of students immediately after receiving and reading the game manual. The rules test will be divided into three main sections: Game Rules, Robot Rules, and Tournament Rules.

More details will accompany the email you will receive. Feel free to PM me if you have any feedback or questions, and I hope everyone has a great season!

If multiple people from the same team sign up, will it be sent to all of them or just one?

If multiple members of a team fill out the form, we will send it to all of them.

Thanks for doing this!

One point of clarification: By filling out the form above, you should receive nearly instant notification via email when the 1678 2020 Rules Test is available.

You can also check back on this thread tomorrow at ~10:30am PST, when we expect to have the rules test released!

Good luck in 2020 everyone, and Happy Kickoff!

Best,

-Mike

Thanks for doing this. We have used your tests in the past and they are great!

I know we talked about this at champs already, but thank you and your team again for doing this. Has been a great resource for me and my team and I know I’ll use it every year as long as there is one.

Team 1678 is excited to share their 2020 INFINITE RECHARGE rules test! Created by a select team of students immediately after receiving and reading the game manual, all 1678 students must pass the rules test with at least a 90% score before being able to engage in the group discussion and design and prototyping process. Although students cannot have the game manual up while taking the rules test, they are allowed to retake the test as many times as necessary, and are free to reread sections of the game manual in between attempts.

Once you have provided your information via this Google form, you will receive a link to a folder containing the rules test. Before using it, please copy the template form to your own Google Drive (labeled COPY THIS) so other teams can use the template as well. Feel free to read through our questions and take inspiration from them, or simply use the rules test for your team.

We’ve split the rules test into four main sections: Game Rules, Robot Rules, Field Rules, and Tournament Rules.

Feel free to PM me if you have any feedback or questions, and I hope everyone has a great season!

I think I found some mistakes. One especially there is no correct answer for the frame perimeter. Are these known or is it only showing up as incorrect for me?

What mistakes are you referring to?

For the frame perimeter, I believe that the Rules Test should have a question asking the maximum frame perimeter stated in 9.2 R3, with the answer being 120 in.

Thanks all for making this a thing! Team 2220 really appreciates this and was happy to use it today.

One suggestion for the future-- maybe lock down the folder so other people can’t create copies inside of it. It got real crowded real fast, and it’s really easy to accidentally copy the wrong sheet in that situation.

This is great, thank you. Laughed out loud at the HP in the robot weight question! :joy:

Yeah I actually have no idea what the original is right now (so maybe none of this is true)…

Couple things:

  1. Playing defense during AUTO, FOUL or TECH FOUL depending on the situation …The tagline of G3 is poorly worded on the GDC’s part, but robot-robot, potentially defensive, interaction is legal during auto as long as an opposing robot doesn’t cross into the other sector. Centerfield ball stealing/blocking/bulldozing is certainly an available thing.

  2. Choose the requirements for each STAGE of CAPACITY to be completed: …This one is messing with my head? The prompt mentions capacity rather than activation, but the correct answers seem to have the control panel activation step included. Reaching capacity on Stage 2 does not require rotation control? I’m lost. (Stylistically, the semicolons rather than colons also confuse me here, but you capitalize terms correctly so who am I to complain.)

  3. What is the definition of a GENERATOR SWITCH that is LEVEL? …Significantly: 4.4.4B is missing and is important — all robots contacting the switch must be hanging. We’ve already gotten several questions on CD to this effect. Pedantically: The switch is level when it’s within 8 degrees and meets 4.4.4B — no robots need to hang to be level; however, you need >= 1 robot hanging for level points.

  4. What is the maximum frame perimeter for robots playing INFINITE RECHARGE? …My version has no correct answer to this question? (120in R3)

  5. [semi-pedantically] Attempting to score a POWER CELL into your POWER PORT when your bumpers are fully contained in your SECTOR, TECH FOUL per POWER CELL …I know what you mean and it’s nice to try digesting it into an example, but this might sow some confusion. Attempting to score isn’t the problem: I can attempt poorly and not get fouled, and teams can and probably will cause this foul without attempting to score. (It’s the crossing that matters)

.

A lame yellow-hat referee being pedantic:

  1. How many POWER CELLS are on the field at the start of the match, NOT including preloads? (4.1) …Technically 24 is also possible, if 4 balls are not preloaded.
  2. How many POWER CELLS are present on the field, total? (4.1) …Anything <= 48 could be true of the FIELD; there should be 48 in the ARENA unless someone’s got a serious cannon. :stuck_out_tongue:
  3. Having a STARTING CONFIGURATION with a height over 45 inches, TECH FOUL …If your start config is over 45", you (A) have failed inspection and (B) are delaying the match / are now disabled. If you extend above 45" outside of endgame rendezvous, that’s the G17 tech.
  4. Controlling more than five POWER CELLS at the same time, FOUL per additional POWER CELL and YELLOW CARD if egregious …“greater-than-momentary” is missing per G6.

I’m probably missing or misstating things (holy moly this is long for being made so quickly!), but I wanted to at least draw some attention to the non-pedantic concerns.

Thank you very much for the effort
but maybe you can trace the original by Author name?
Also what the original file name?

Thanks

The answer for number of teams on alliances is slightly incorrect. The only event at which there are 4-team alliances is the world championship. District champs still use backup teams like other events.

I’m late to the party but could I get a rules test? I filled the form yesterday

At least when I did it, the link shows up on the next page after you fill out the form? (No waiting)

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the feedback. I have revised the settings on the folder so that people can only copy the test to their own drives.

I have fixed the questions to clarify the wording. I hope this helps!

Hi Ishan, when you filled out the form, were you able to access the link to the google drive folder, or was the folder empty?

It said it couldn’t open the file earlier, but I tried it again on a computer and it worked fine so it may have been an issue with my phone? But I’m not sure
