2 Linear Actuators

Hello All:

Question: I have two 12 vdc linear actuators. If I want them to work simulatneaoulsy to raise and lower a scoop (one joystick button to lower and another to raise), can I simply wire them together into one Talon motor controller and code them like a standard Victor motor? Thanks.

That depends on what legal motor you are using for the linear actuator. See R501 and R504.

These are the actuators:

ECO LLC 12 Inch 12" High Speed 14mm/s Linear Actuator Motor 1000N DC12V with Mounting Brackets

So what legal motor in R501 have you adapted to those linear actuators?

I am not sure what you mean. The actuators have motors on them that comply with FRC rules.

How exactly do they comply with FRC rules? Which motor in R501 are included in the linear actuator?

Are these the actuators you are referring to?

If so, those motors aren’t legal per the 2022 FRC robot rules. Are you planning to use these on an FRC robot this year? If so, you can somewhat easily adapt these to run a BAG motor. We did it way back in 2016. I wasn’t the mentor involved with helping retrofit the actuators, but I recall it involving putting a flat on the BAG motor shaft, and possibly drilling new motor mounting holes.

That actuator does not come with a FIRST legal motor on it. If you take the motor off and replace it with one that’s FIRST legal, then the rest of the actuator is fine - but doing that may be more work than you expect!

Hey Brian - I was the mentor involved with swapping a BAG motor onto the linear actuator. The ones you linked to look similar to the Hydrowerx models that we used in 2016 but I would recommend that the OP check the dimensions. Your description of the mods we did are pretty much spot-on.
