2000 Championship Videos

I’ve uploaded what I could find of the 2000 FIRST Championship match videos and compiled a spreadsheet with teams and scores.

Quals Playlist

Elims Playlist

Match Data Spreadsheet

Unfortunately the earliest matches I could find were quals 145 and due to multiple fields it looks like I only had footage for every 4th match.

If you have some of this missing footage let me know and I’ll add it to the playlist/spreadsheet.

Does anyone know if TBA has a way to integrate this in anyway? It’d make sifting through the matches for the one you want a lot easier.

@Eugene_Fang and the rest of your crew: Oldies and goodies alert, if you can answer the question.

IIRC without the full schedule it may be SOL to add them directly though matches. Pending an actual TBA response, id put it in the media tab, even though usually theyre not meant to be there.

This is really cool!

I think we can just add the matches with videos to the database as matches, and then link the videos. I’ll do some investigating to see what we can do.

Bringing this video to the light so it can be enjoyed by many is awesome i wonder what other videos awesome match videos are in the back of people’s closet

I have an old spreadsheet with some historical data from the Championship. Here’s the alliance selection and finish results from the event.

Currently on working on bringing the SOAP archive back to life. Working on some leads, but about 20gb worth has been found already through Wayback and contacting one of the webmasters. Nowhere near complete though…

I miss SOAP. Don’t tell anyone that’s where the GameDay name was ripped from :upside_down_face:

I have match footage from 2000 to present of what I was able to dig up from our VHS tapes and went and digitized them. I even have a promo video our main sponsor at the time segmented on there from Champs 1999.

2000 Champs:

If anyone wants wants to take a look at the different games feel free. I even have the taped game explanation before animations were a thing from 2001 and 2002. You can look at everything else here. Enjoy!

For context, do you remember the alliance selection procedure? Could top 16 seeds pick each other?

Here is a video of the alliance selection at worlds.

Based on the declines, I’m gonna go with yes the top 16 seeds could pick each other.

This was actually before my time. I was a student from 2003 - 2006.

I was told that the rules were different for the order of Alliance Selections. Think it was 1-8, 1-8 (No serpentine). But they were able to select in the top 8 where a decline can happen if they wanted thto be thier own captain like today. At Champs I think there could have been 16 Alliances. I found footage of playoff matches that they were announced as Eighth Matches. I can be wrong.

I know in the videos I edited for Philadelphia 2000. We were the #2 seed and picked by the #1 seed.

Serpentine draft started in 2006, so you’d be right that there wasn’t one. At Nationals (the name change didn’t happen until 2003 or 2004), at least in this time frame, there were 16 alliances, and I want to say that divisions (if any) weren’t restricted to a specific field (and all teams had a chance to play on Einstein).

I was wondering why one of the matches looked like it was on a stage compared to the rest being in a hanger / shelter type building. Thanks.

“Building”? Uh… there’s parking lot under the field. Pits, fields, and other similar things were all in tents put up for the event. Einstein was on a stage with a half shell tent-type covering, but the bleachers were in full sun.

Part of 330’s uniform in those years was lifeguard hats, for a reason.

I’ve got the matches and videos imported: https://www.thebluealliance.com/event/2000cmp
The bracket is a bit broken, but I’m not going to mess with it right now.

Thanks @Peyton_Yeung!

Actually never really paid much attention to the background and walls to determine that. It does look like the field was a giant tent.

Yes, 2000 was the first year this was legal.

Right after 1999, which was the first year with alliance selection.

This looks like FRC Champs could have happened at MTV’s 2000 Spring Break! Can we do this again (after the Covid-19 shutdown)?
