2003 Kettering Kickoff - September 20

The fourth annual Kettering Kickoff FIRST Robot Competition will be held September 20, 2003, at the beautiful recreation complex of Kettering University in Flint Michigan.

We can accommodate 32 teams, but 24 of those spots are already taken as of this posting. So move fast to register, or you could lose out.

As always, we’ll have free T-shirts for up to 20 team members. We’ll have the big projection screen for video and scoring. Nate will bring his great scoring software and expertise. We’re using the “official” arena and electronics from FIRST, and we have new arena carpet. The registration fee is $350.00 .

This is fun event, and it promises to be the biggest and best Kettering Kickoff ever.

Call Sally Hicks at the Kettering University Enrollment Management Department now to reserve your spot. Her telephone number is 810-762-9760.

Is it true that there will be no electricty for this event, so you must bring a battery-operated drill and all that stuff?

Following is specific information for our competition. There are a couple items that will be different from the National Competition.

Banners around the track will be hung and removed by Kettering Kickoff officials. Please leave your banner at the Registration Table. DO NOT FORGET TO RETRIEVE YOUR ITEMS AFTER THE COMPETITION!! If you hang your banner on the back of the bleachers, please do not use tape. There should be no banners hung on the walls. Any banners on the walls will be removed.
**There is no electricity in the pits. Please bring battery-operated tools only. There should be no grinding or machining in the pits. There is no machine shop, but there is a location to charge batteries. **
The totes will not be wrapped with reflective tape.
Team check-in begins at 7:00. Pits open at 7:00 A.M., practice rounds begin at 7:30, opening ceremonies are at 9:00, trophies awarded around 3:30 or 4:00, depending on the length of the competition. If you want to drop your robot off the night before, please let me know ([email protected]). We need to know approximate time of delivery. The recreation center will not be open after 9:00 P.M. on Friday.
An adult representative from your team must attend the Team Leader Meeting (location to be announced) at 8:45 A.M.
Some awards may be determined by participants and that information will be provided to you in your registration packet.
Twenty T-shirts per team are provided with your registration fee. Additional T-shirts will not be available for sale at the competition. If you need more than 20 shirts, please contact me by September 8, 2003 with a number needed. The cost for each additional shirt ordered is $5.50 and payment can be made by check or credit card (Mastercard or VISA only)

whoops, sry about that.

Also I have another question: Where will this competition be held. I know Kettering, in the sense of what building. I’ve never been there, so I have no clue if you guys have 20 buildings, or what not.

thanks in advance

It’s not like Houston, I can tell you that, lol.

It’s just basically inside the gymnasium at the college. It’s kinda hard for me to explain because I’ve only been there once. Tomorrow will be my 2nd time.

ok so there will be a big building with at least a sign that says “sports center” or something along those lines. That should be plenty of information, other than that I’m sure that they will have a ‘robitics this way ---->’ sign.

thanks,

If I remember correctly, then you are basically right (although I can’t remember that far back really)

The event is being held at the Kettering Rec Center. We finished setting everything up earlier tonight, and we’re all set to got Opening ceremonies are at 9 for those who are just coming to visit, and the doors open at 7(I believe,) for the teams. See all of you who will be there tomorrow! You know where to find me.
