2004 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

Hmm I wonder what these things are going to be. Any Hints?

Bā€“bā€“bā€“bigger? ::keels over and dies:: Insanity. At its best, of course. But nonetheless, insanity.

I stayed at the Omni last year one night, but I was so tired from staying up 42 hrs in a row I walked into my hotel room, tossed my bag to the floor, went over and sat in the chair and the next thing I knew it was morning. I missed all the fun :frowning:

Anyway, this year IRI is going to be bigger and better then before, and i reccomend that when registration opens you register quick. I have a feeling spots will go fast.

The Omni, more specifically my and Big Mikeā€™s hotel room, was alot of fun. We had about 10 FIRST-ers in there listening to story time featuring JVN until 3 in the morning two nights. Fun times.

Will someone please remember to bring an alarm clock for John V-Neum this year?

Steve

I think he may need several. Wouldnā€™t want to sleep through the first few rounds now, would we?

The second night we werenā€™t in there till 3 cause Mike kicked us out :(. But we still managed to have fun running around the hotel at 2AM and taking pictures of the door of room 201 :).

They had an alarm clock, but it only works if you set it ;). Maybe they should have just stayed up when Ken left at 5AMā€¦

An alarm clock isnt going to do too much good if he does something likeā€¦oh I dont know taking a hammer to it and smashing it to little pieces, throwing it against the wall till it breaks, tearing out the power cord/winder/batteries, turning it offā€¦and so on. I think you would be better off getting a group of people to sing a morning greeting outside his door if he isnt up in time.

Give John a break ;-). My fault for not remembering to wake him up 5am in the morning. I will take care of you this year buddy Q('_'Q) .

Nope. Iā€™ve already decided to not go to Atlanta and IRI instead for the next 3 years.

yes, definitely. not to mention the 12 hour drive looking for ANYthing on the road that said 1089 (and thatā€™s no easy feat!). but we did find one, (mile 108 and 9 tenths) heading out of Pennsylvania.

Perhaps there might be a pool fight again this year?

Just you wait guysā€¦ just wait

And what was this I heard last year about people playing Xbox in the early hours of the morning at Lawrence North (IRI Site) on the big projecting screen?? ::dreams of Halo on it::

Yeah, that happened at around 3 or 4 am. I couldnt sleep so i went out in there and watched a while, then clark, kyle, and i walked (i walked around barefoot) around the school till the tv stations showed up. We played basketball in the aux gym and looked at everyones pits and robots

Great fun, I got a little scared when we were wondering around and that janitor ā€œsawā€ us.lolā€¦ The xbox was cool really big, but we didnt have audio and for some reason it didnt fit right so Halo didnt work wellā€¦Hockey was cool though. Although Iā€™m not on a team Iā€™ll definetly be back at IRI next year.

It didnā€™t help that we stayed up really late that night watching a movie.

BTW For anybody that is going to be flying to IRI be sure that you get a Limo instead of a taxi. I learned this the hard way. When the time comes I will post the number of a good limo company at the airport which I used to get to the bus station. It only cost me $11 from the airport to the bus station. As opposed to $43 from the bus station to the Omni.

Bless your heart, Ken. I think weā€™re going to officially (libby and i) adopt you as IndianaFIRSTā€™s favorite outside volunteer!!

Actually thats mostly my fault because as Ken left he woke me up and then I was supposed to get up and shower then wake up John and Aaron, but instead I just fell back asleepā€¦ But the movie the night before was so horribly made it was funny, and somehow it led to us deciding that Johns new name was Johnny Van-Neun, I donā€™t quite remember how we came to that conclusion.

I think the phone call went something like this:

Roughly 9-9:30 AM (I believe)
Ring

JVN: ā€œHello?ā€

AB: ā€œHey John, its Andy and there is this robotics competition going on down the street and I was just wondering if you were going to show up?ā€

Ehh something like thatā€¦

Just a reminder, donā€™t take anything listed here as fact.
Just chit-chat,
Except the IRI dates, which are pretty close to fact, in fact.

oh, but you might as well call it fact, after all if more than one FIRSTer agrees to it, it must be
